Servings: 4
Preparation Time: 10 minutes
Cooking Time: 20 minutes
Ingredients
- cup elbow macaroni
- 1 tablespoon unsalted butter
- 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
- cup 1% milk
- cup shredded sharp Cheddar cheese
- 1 tablespoons sour cream
- teaspoon Cajun seasoning
- 1 cup frozen salad shrimp
- 2 tablespoons panko bread crumbs (Optional)
- 2 tablespoons shredded sharp Cheddar cheese
Directions
Step 1: Preheat the oven to 350F (175C) and grease an oval au gratin dish.
Step 2: Bring a large pot of lightly salted water to a boil. Cook elbow macaroni in the boiling water for about 8 minutes, or until tender but firm to the bite. Stir occasionally. Drain the macaroni and set aside.
Step 3: In a saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Stir in the flour to form a smooth paste.
Step 4: Slowly add the milk while whisking constantly to combine. Stir in cup of shredded Cheddar, sour cream, and Cajun seasoning, mixing until smooth.
Step 5: Add the drained macaroni to the saucepan, then fold in the frozen shrimp. Mix everything until evenly combined.
Step 6: Pour the mixture into the prepared au gratin dish. Top with panko bread crumbs (if using) and sprinkle the remaining 2 tablespoons of shredded Cheddar over the top.
Step 7: Bake in the preheated oven for about 20 minutes, or until the dish is bubbly and golden on top.
