Cabbage Balushka or Cabbage and Noodles Recipe
Egg Noodles with Cabbage and Butter
Ingredients
- 1 (16 ounce) package egg noodles
- cup butter
- 1 large onion, chopped
- 1 head cabbage, cored and chopped
- Salt and ground black pepper to taste
Directions
Step 1: Fill a large pot with lightly salted water and bring it to a rolling boil. Stir in the egg noodles and return the water to a boil. Cook the noodles uncovered, stirring occasionally, until tender but still slightly firm, about 5 minutes. Drain the noodles well.
Step 2: In a large skillet or wok, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and cook, stirring occasionally, until the onion becomes golden brown, about 8 minutes.
Step 3: Add the chopped cabbage to the onions and cook, stirring frequently, until the cabbage has wilted, which should take another 5 to 8 minutes.
Step 4: Gently stir the cooked noodles into the cabbage mixture. Season with salt and black pepper to taste, then mix thoroughly. Serve warm.
