Camp David Spaghetti with Italian Sausage Recipe

Ingredients
- 4 Italian sausage links
- 1 pound lean ground beef
- 1 yellow onion, chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, chopped
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 (15 ounce) can tomato sauce
- 1 (14.5 ounce) can whole peeled tomatoes
- cup chopped fresh oregano
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon dried basil
- 1 bay leaf
- teaspoon ground black pepper
- 1 (16 ounce) package dry spaghetti
- cup grated Parmesan cheese
Directions
- Gather all ingredients and prepare them for use.
- Slice the sausages lengthwise, leaving the links attached on one side. Lay them flat in a large skillet.
- Cook the sausages over medium heat until browned and cooked through, about 5 minutes, flipping once. Transfer them to a plate and set aside.
- In the same skillet, add the ground beef, chopped onion, garlic, and olive oil. Cook over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until the onion becomes translucent and the beef is browned and crumbly, about 10 minutes.
- Drain all but 2 tablespoons of drippings from the skillet.
- Stir in the tomato sauce, whole peeled tomatoes, chopped oregano, salt, dried basil, bay leaf, and ground black pepper. Simmer uncovered over low heat, stirring occasionally, for about 1 hour, until the flavors have blended. Remove and discard the bay leaf.
- While the sauce simmers, preheat the oven to 350F (175C).
- Bring a large pot of lightly salted water to a boil. Cook the spaghetti in the boiling water, stirring occasionally, until tender but firm to the bite, about 8 to 10 minutes. Drain the spaghetti.
- Stir the drained spaghetti into the prepared sauce.
- Divide the spaghetti and sauce among individual oven-safe baking dishes or plates. Top each serving with a cooked half sausage and sprinkle with grated Parmesan cheese.
- Bake in the preheated oven until the cheese is melted and begins to brown, about 5 to 10 minutes.
