Baked Penne with Italian Sausage Recipe
Cook Time: 35 minutes
Ingredients
- 1 (12 ounce) package dry penne pasta
- 2 teaspoons olive oil
- 1 pound mild Italian sausage
- 1 cup chopped onion
- cup white wine
- 1 (15 ounce) can tomato sauce
- 1 (14.5 ounce) can diced tomatoes with garlic
- 1 (6 ounce) can tomato paste
- 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
Directions
- Step 1: Preheat the oven to 350F (175C).
- Step 2: Bring a large pot of lightly salted water to a boil. Add penne pasta and cook, stirring occasionally, until tender yet firm to the bite, about 11 minutes. Drain and set aside.
- Step 3: Heat olive oil in a large, deep skillet over medium-high heat. Add the sausage and onion, cooking until the sausage is browned and the onion is translucent. Drain any excess fat.
- Step 4: Pour in the white wine and bring the mixture to a boil. Use a wooden spoon to scrape up the browned bits from the bottom of the pan.
- Step 5: Stir in the tomato sauce, diced tomatoes, and tomato paste. Let it simmer for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally to blend the flavors.
- Step 6: Add the cooked penne pasta to the skillet, tossing to combine. Transfer the mixture to a 9x13-inch baking dish.
- Step 7: Sprinkle the shredded mozzarella cheese evenly on top of the pasta mixture.
- Step 8: Place the baking dish in the preheated oven and bake for about 20 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
- Step 9: Remove from the oven, let cool for a few minutes, and serve hot. Enjoy!
