This savory Hot Dog Cornbread Bake is a hearty and satisfying dish, combining the comfort of cornbread with the rich flavor of hot dogs and a cheesy topping. Perfect for a family meal or a fun party dish, it's simple to prepare and always a crowd-pleaser.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups thinly sliced celery
  • 1 cups sliced green onions
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1 pounds hot dogs (beef and pork frankfurters)
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 cups milk
  • 2 teaspoons ground sage
  • teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 2 (8.5 ounce) packages dry corn bread mix
  • 2 cups shredded Cheddar cheese, divided

Directions

Step 1: Gather all the ingredients needed for the recipe.

Step 2: In a medium skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the sliced celery and green onions, sauting for about 5 minutes until they become tender. Transfer this mixture to a large bowl and set aside.

Step 3: Slice the hot dogs lengthwise into quarters, and then cut each quarter into thirds. In the same skillet, cook the hot dog pieces over medium heat for 5 minutes, or until they are lightly browned. Once done, add the hot dogs to the bowl with the celery and onion mixture. Set aside 1 cup of the hot dog mixture for later use.

Step 4: Preheat your oven to 400F (200C).

Step 5: In a large bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, ground sage, and black pepper until smooth. Add the hot dog mixture (excluding the 1 cup set aside), then stir in the corn bread mix and 1 cups of shredded Cheddar cheese. Mix everything together until fully combined.

Step 6: Transfer the cornbread mixture into a shallow 3-quart baking dish. Spread it out evenly.

Step 7: Top the mixture with the reserved 1 cup of hot dog mixture and sprinkle with the remaining cup of shredded Cheddar cheese.

Step 8: Place the baking dish in the preheated oven and bake, uncovered, for 30 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

Step 9: Remove the dish from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes before serving.
