Pizza on the Grill Recipe
Cook Time: 15 minutes
No pizza oven? No problem! You can make your homemade pizza on the grill for that classic smoky, wood-fired oven flavor. Even if you already have a pizza oven, these grilled pizzas might just become your new favorite way to cook pizza.
Heres how to make pizza on the grill:
- Step 1: Gather all your ingredients.
- Step 2: Prepare the dough: In a large bowl, pour warm water and dissolve yeast and sugar in it. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes until the yeast becomes foamy.
- Step 3: Mix in flour, 1 tablespoon olive oil, and salt. Stir until the dough pulls away from the sides of the bowl, then turn it out onto a lightly floured surface. Knead until smooth, about 8 minutes.
- Step 4: Place the dough in an oiled bowl and cover it with a damp cloth. Let it rise for about 1 hour, or until it doubles in size. Punch the dough down, then knead in minced garlic and chopped basil. Let it rise again for about 1 more hour.
- Step 5: Meanwhile, prepare the garlic oil: Combine cup olive oil with minced garlic in a microwave-safe bowl. Heat in the microwave for 30 seconds, until fragrant.
- Step 6: Preheat your outdoor grill over high heat. Brush the grill grates with the garlic oil to prevent sticking.
- Step 7: Punch down the dough again and divide it into two portions. Roll each portion into an oblong shape about 3/8 to 1/2 inch thick.
- Step 8: Carefully place one piece of dough onto the hot grill. The dough will puff up quickly. Once the bottom is lightly browned, flip it using two spatulas.
- Step 9: Brush the grilled side of the dough with more garlic oil. Add half of your pizza toppings: spread 2 tablespoons of tomato sauce, top with chopped tomatoes, olives, roasted red peppers, shredded mozzarella cheese, and fresh basil.
- Step 10: Close the grill lid and cook until the cheese is melted and bubbly. Remove the pizza from the grill and set it aside to cool slightly before cutting. Repeat the process for the second pizza.
- Step 11: Serve your grilled pizzas hot and enjoy!
