Baked Mac and Cheese for One Recipe
Ingredients
This recipe was developed at its original yield. Ingredient amounts are automatically adjusted, but cooking times and steps remain unchanged. Note that not all recipes scale perfectly.
Original recipe (1X) yields 1 serving:
- 3 tablespoons uncooked macaroni pasta
- 1 tablespoon butter
- cup milk
- 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
- teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1 pinch pepper
- cup shredded Cheddar cheese
- 1 teaspoon ground mustard
- 1 dash Worcestershire sauce
- 1 dash hot sauce
- 1 teaspoon bread crumbs
- 1 tablespoon shredded Cheddar cheese
Directions
Step 1: Preheat the oven to 400F (200C). Grease an oven-proof soup crock or a 1-cup baking dish.
Step 2: Bring a small pot of lightly salted water to a boil. Cook the macaroni in the boiling water, stirring occasionally, until tender yet firm to the bite, about 8 minutes. Drain and set aside.
Step 3: Melt the butter in the same pot over medium-high heat. Whisk in the milk, flour, salt, onion powder, and pepper until smooth. Cook and stir for 2 minutes.
Step 4: Reduce the heat to low, then whisk in cup Cheddar cheese, ground mustard, Worcestershire sauce, and hot sauce. Stir in the cooked macaroni until it's fully coated with the sauce.
Step 5: Transfer the macaroni mixture to the prepared dish. Sprinkle with bread crumbs and the remaining 1 tablespoon of Cheddar cheese.
Step 6: Bake, uncovered, in the preheated oven until the macaroni is heated through and the cheese is melted, about 10 minutes.
