Sweet and Tangy Apple Pork Chops Recipe

Sweet and Tangy Apple Pork Chops Recipe

Cook Time: 10 minutes

Ingredients

This recipe was developed with the original yield. Ingredient amounts are automatically adjusted, but cooking times and steps remain unchanged. Note that not all recipes scale perfectly. The original recipe (1X) yields 4 servings:

  • 3 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons honey mustard
  • 1 teaspoon mustard powder
  • teaspoon ground cumin
  • teaspoon cayenne pepper (Optional)
  • teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 pound pork chops
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • cup apple cider

Directions

  1. In a small bowl, combine brown sugar, honey mustard, mustard powder, cumin, cayenne pepper, and garlic powder. Rub the mixture generously onto the pork chops. Let the chops sit on a plate for about 10 minutes to allow the flavors to meld.
  2. While the pork chops rest, melt the butter in a large skillet over medium heat. Once the butter has melted, add the apple cider to the pan.
  3. Place the coated pork chops into the skillet and cook for 5 to 7 minutes per side, or until they are browned. To check doneness, insert an instant-read thermometer into the center of the pork chops. It should read at least 145F (63C).

Cook's Note

If you're not a fan of cumin, feel free to omit it or reduce the amount used. If you enjoy a bit more heat, increase the cayenne pepper, or use your favorite chili powder. Dijon mustard can be used as a substitute for honey mustard, or you can mix plain mustard with honey for a similar flavor.

The combination of spices is fantastic! I found the perfect balance of cumin in this recipe. Since I was making a large batch, I opted to bake the chops at 375F for 35 minutes until they reached 145F. The result was absolutely delicious!

This dish turned out exceptionally well. I adapted the recipe for my Instant Pot, my go-to cooking appliance lately. Following the instructions closely, I made a slight adjustment to the cooking technique. I utilized the sauté function on the Instant Pot to sear the pork chops in butter, then took out the meat. Next, I poured in the apple cider and the remaining spice blend, using it to deglaze the pot. After reintroducing the pork, I sealed the Instant Pot and pressure cooked on high for 30 minutes, followed by a natural pressure release for approximately 15 more minutes.

This dish was a huge success! My partner described it as a gourmet delight. The blend of seasonings was absolutely delicious! I will definitely be making it again. I baked it at 350 degrees for 30 minutes. Instead of using cider, I opted to slice and peel apples, baking them on top of the meat... and it was absolutely delicious!
