Ingredients

  • 2 medium sweet potatoes
  • cup olive oil, divided
  • teaspoon smoked paprika
  • teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon cayenne pepper

Directions

Step 1: Preheat an outdoor grill to medium heat and lightly oil the grate to prevent sticking.

Step 2: Scrub the sweet potatoes thoroughly under cold running water. Theres no need to peel them just make sure they are clean.

Step 3: Cut each sweet potato lengthwise into 8 wedges. Place the wedges into a large bowl and toss them with 2 tablespoons of olive oil, ensuring they are evenly coated.

Step 4: In a separate small bowl, combine the remaining 2 tablespoons of olive oil with the smoked paprika, salt, garlic powder, cinnamon, and cayenne pepper. Stir well to create a seasoning mixture.

Step 5: Place the sweet potato wedges on the grill, positioning them perpendicular to the grates. Lower the heat to low.

Step 6: Grill the wedges over low heat, turning them occasionally, until the potatoes are soft and slightly charred, about 16 to 18 minutes.

Step 7: Brush both sides of the wedges with the prepared seasoning mixture. Grill for another 1 to 2 minutes to allow the flavors to infuse and the potatoes to caramelize.

Step 8: Once the wedges are done, transfer them to a plate and serve hot.

Recipe Tips

Two medium-sized sweet potatoes typically weigh about 1 pound. There is no need to peel the sweet potatoes before grilling, as the skin adds texture and flavor.

Wonderful recipe! Instead of basting, I mixed oil and seasonings to coat the wedges before grilling. I also sprinkled about 2 teaspoons of brown sugar for a delicious caramelization. It turned out perfectly!

I absolutely adored the straightforwardness and delicious taste of these sweet potatoes. The proportions were spot on. It was already evening, so I simply popped the sweet potatoes in the oven while preparing another dish. I plan on making them again and trying them on the grill as suggested. Thanks for sharing this fantastic recipe!
