Tahini Chicken Recipe
Recipe
This dish is simple yet packed with flavor. Heres how to prepare it step-by-step!
Ingredients (Serves 2)
- cup water
- 1 chicken bouillon cube
- cup tahini (sesame paste)
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon honey
- 1 clove garlic, minced
- 2 teaspoons minced fresh ginger
- 2 teaspoons butter (or more as needed)
- 2 boneless, skinless chicken breast halves, cut into cubes (or more to taste)
- 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour (or as needed)
- 1 teaspoon sesame seeds (optional)
Directions
Step 1: Bring water and bouillon cube to a boil in a pot until the bouillon is fully dissolved. Once dissolved, lower the heat to a simmer.
Step 2: Whisk tahini, soy sauce, honey, minced garlic, and ginger into the bouillon mixture. Stir until smooth. Keep the sauce warm on low heat.
Step 3: In a separate skillet, heat butter over medium heat. Add the chicken cubes and cook, stirring occasionally, until the chicken is no longer pink in the center. This should take about 5 to 10 minutes. Ensure the internal temperature reaches at least 165F (74C) for safety.
Step 4: Once the chicken is cooked, add flour to the tahini sauce. Whisk the mixture continuously for 2-3 minutes to thicken the sauce.
Step 5: Add the cooked chicken into the tahini sauce and toss gently to coat the chicken evenly with the sauce.
Step 6: Garnish with sesame seeds (if desired) and serve. Enjoy!

This dish turned out surprisingly delicious! I made a few adjustments by incorporating a yellow bell pepper and an onion. I sautéed them along with minced garlic and then added water and bouillon. Next, I mixed in tahini, soy sauce, honey, garlic, sesame seeds, and pepper. For an extra twist, I included cashew butter and Thai chili paste, which provided a delightful kick and elevated the sauce's flavor. To prevent overcooking and allow the chicken to absorb the sauce's flavors, I added it along with frozen broccoli florets last. I opted not to use flour because the sauce was already thick; in fact, I needed to add extra chicken stock to achieve the desired consistency. Served over rice, this dish was truly fantastic!

This recipe is absolutely delicious! I follow it closely, although I sometimes use powdered ginger instead of fresh when I run out. I have found that reducing the flour slightly helps because the sauce can get quite thick and makes coating the chicken a bit challenging. I like to serve this dish over white rice with a side of vegetables, such as green beans, broccoli, or Brussels sprouts, depending on what I have in the fridge.

We enjoyed the taste, though it could use a little more seasoning. We paired it with white rice, which was delicious, but next time I'm thinking of adding broccoli, red pepper flakes, perhaps some jalapeno and cilantro, and some texture like nuts or extra sesame seeds. I might also try serving it over potatoes. It definitely needed some vegetables on the side or mixed in. It's rich with a pleasant flavor - definitely a recipe worth keeping!

Simple and delicious dinner for a weekday evening. I substituted a bouillon cube with low-sodium chicken broth. Planning to try cooking the chicken with sesame oil instead of butter next time. We really liked it!
