Parmesan Baked Pork Chops Recipe

Cook Time: 40 minutes

Ingredients

  • 1 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 cup Italian seasoned bread crumbs
  • 1 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 4 boneless center-cut pork chops (5 ounces each, 1/2-inch thick)
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • Nonstick cooking spray

Directions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350F (175C). Line a baking dish with aluminum foil and lightly coat it with nonstick cooking spray.
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine the grated Parmesan cheese, Italian seasoned bread crumbs, ground black pepper, and garlic powder. Stir until evenly mixed.
  3. Rub each pork chop with olive oil on both sides to ensure they are coated evenly.
  4. Dip each oiled pork chop into the Parmesan mixture, pressing the coating firmly onto both sides. Make sure each chop is well covered.
  5. Arrange the coated pork chops in the prepared baking dish, ensuring they are spaced evenly.
  6. Place the baking dish in the preheated oven and bake for 40 to 45 minutes, or until the pork chops are no longer pink in the center. The internal temperature should reach 145F (63C) when checked with an instant-read thermometer.

These pork chops had a delicious flavor and were made with simple ingredients. However, the recommended cooking time of 40-45 minutes for 1/2" thin chops was too long, resulting in dry meat. I found that cooking them at 400F for 15 minutes, flipping halfway through, produced a perfect result with a nice brown color. The recipe makes a generous amount of breading, so I recommend making only half of it. The aroma while baking is absolutely wonderful!

I tried making it twice. The first time, I followed the recipe exactly. However, the pork turned out to be too bland with an overwhelming pork flavor. Even after seasoning the pork with my own spices the second time, it still tasted just as terrible. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong here.

Prior to baking, I sautéed the pork chops in a pan. This step helped to lock in the juices and prevent them from drying out during baking. Additionally, I substituted crushed Ritz crackers for bread crumbs. The result was incredibly flavorful!

I substituted Italian seasoning for garlic powder and used regular breadcrumbs. I will definitely be making this recipe again.
