Sloppy Joe Bake Recipe

Cook Time: 25 minutes

Sloppy Joe Crescent Roll Casserole

Servings: 8

Ingredients

  • 1 pound lean ground beef
  • 1 cups canned sloppy joe sauce
  • 1 cup shredded Cheddar cheese
  • 2 (8 ounce) cans refrigerated reduced-fat crescent rolls

Directions

Step 1: Preheat your oven to 350F (175C). Lightly spray a 9x13-inch baking dish with cooking spray.

Step 2: In a skillet, cook and stir the ground beef over medium heat. Break up the meat as it cooks and continue until it is no longer pink, about 10 minutes. Drain any excess fat.

Step 3: Stir the sloppy joe sauce into the cooked ground beef. Mix well to combine.

Step 4: Unroll one can of crescent rolls. Pinch the seams of the dough triangles together to form one sheet. Lay this dough sheet in the bottom of the prepared baking dish, pressing it gently into place.

Step 5: Spread the meat and sauce mixture evenly over the dough in the baking dish.

Step 6: Sprinkle the shredded Cheddar cheese evenly over the meat mixture.

Step 7: Unroll the second can of crescent rolls. Again, pinch the seams to create a single sheet of dough. Place this sheet of dough over the cheese layer, covering the casserole.

Step 8: Bake the casserole in the preheated oven for 15 to 20 minutes, or until the top sheet of dough is golden brown.

I didn't have any sloppy joe mix, so I improvised by using 2 small (8oz. each) cans of tomato paste mixed with browned ground beef, along with some frozen chopped onion and basic spices like basil, oregano, salt, and pepper. I also pre-baked the bottom crescent layer for about 5 minutes while the filling was cooking to avoid it being doughy, and then baked the entire dish for around 23 minutes. The result was delicious overall!

I pre-baked the bottom crescent dough for approximately 8 minutes before topping it with the sloppy joe mix.

I baked the bottom layer for around 6 minutes until it was just starting to turn golden before adding the filling. My family and friends from the firehouse are already eagerly asking when I will bake it again!

Tasty and simple to prepare. An ideal dish for children to practice their cooking skills.

Great recipe! I substituted biscuits for crescent rolls to reduce fat content. I would definitely consider making this dish again.
