Bacon-Garlic Green Beans Recipe
Ingredients
This recipe was developed at its original yield. Ingredient amounts are automatically adjusted, but cooking times and steps remain unchanged. Note that not all recipes scale perfectly.
Original recipe (1X) yields 12 servings:
- 3 pounds fresh green beans, trimmed
- 4 slices bacon
- 1 cup butter
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- teaspoon lemon zest
Directions
Step 1: Gather all the ingredients.
Step 2: Place the green beans in a pot and cover them with water. Bring the water to a boil. Once boiling, reduce the heat to medium-low and simmer until the beans start to soften, about 10 minutes.
Step 3: Drain the water, leaving the beans in the pot.
Step 4: Place the bacon strips on a microwave-safe plate and cook in the microwave until crisp, about 2 minutes. Let the bacon cool and crumble it into small pieces.
Step 5: Stir the butter and crumbled bacon into the beans in the pot. Return to medium heat and cook, stirring frequently, until the butter melts, about 2 to 3 minutes.
Step 6: Add the minced garlic and cook, stirring, until fragrant, about 3 to 4 minutes.
Step 7: Top with the lemon zest and stir everything together.
Cook's Notes
If you're looking for a healthier version, you can remove the bacon. However, adding bacon is a great option for enhancing the flavor of the beans.

Simple to prepare and quite delicious. After checking out the feedback, I opted to use just one stick of butter instead of two, and it turned out to be just the right amount.

Quite simple and delicious. I had only 2.5 lbs of beans and used just 1/4 cup of butter, which turned out to be more than enough! I accidentally left out the lemon zest, which I bet would have elevated the dish even more. I also sprinkled in some salt since my butter was unsalted.

I used haricot verts in this recipe since they are the only type of green beans my husband enjoys. I followed the recipe as is, adjusted for two servings. The addition of lemon zest truly enhances the flavors of the dish.

My family thoroughly enjoyed this recipe, although I plan to reduce the amount of butter when I make it again.
