Grilled Italian Pork Chops Recipe

Cook Time: 10 minutes

Ingredients

This recipe yields 4 servings. Ingredient amounts adjust automatically if scaling the recipe, but cooking times remain the same. Not all recipes scale perfectly.

  • 4 pork chops (3/4 inch thick)
  • Salt and ground black pepper, to taste
  • 4 slices of ham
  • 4 slices of tomato
  • 4 slices of mozzarella cheese
  • Chopped fresh oregano, to taste
  • Paprika, to taste

Directions

Step 1: Preheat your outdoor grill to medium heat and lightly oil the grate to prevent sticking.

Step 2: Season each pork chop generously with salt and ground black pepper.

Step 3: Grill the pork chops for 5 to 8 minutes per side, or until nicely browned with clear grill marks and no longer pink in the center. Use an instant-read thermometer to ensure the internal temperature reaches 145F (63C).

Step 4: Layer a slice of ham, tomato, and mozzarella on each pork chop. Sprinkle with chopped oregano and paprika for added flavor.

Step 5: Continue grilling for another 2 minutes, or until the cheese has melted and starts to bubble.

Step 6: Remove from the grill and let the pork chops rest for 5 minutes before serving. This allows the juices to redistribute and keeps the meat tender.

This meal was absolutely delicious! My husband was so full that he couldn't even make it off the stairs. I made a few small changes to the recipe. I decided to grill the ham and tomatoes before assembling the dish. Then, I layered the pork chops with mozzarella cheese, a slice of ham, shredded gouda, grilled tomatoes, and topped it off with a mixture of salt, pepper, chopped oregano, and chopped parsley. The flavors were excellent and every bite was worth it! We enjoyed it with Grilled Green Bean Bundles and Southern-style Collard Greens.

I transformed this recipe by creating delicious stuffed Italian pork chops. Instead of my original plan to stuff and bake the three-quarter inch butterflied chops, I opted to follow this recipe. I layered thick deli slices of ham with grated mozzarella cheese, oregano, and basil. Rolling the cheese inside the ham resembled a burrito. Placing these stuffed ham rolls inside the butterflied chops, securing them with toothpicks, I grilled them as instructed. Finally, I added extra mozzarella, tomato slices, and a sprinkle of oregano and basil on top, heating for an additional minute to melt the cheese. The outcome was fantastic, and we thoroughly enjoyed it.

I prepared this dish in the oven, starting by searing the chops for about 2 minutes on each side. They turned out perfect thickness. Next, I warmed the tomatoes briefly in the same pan and then placed them on top of the hot chops. Sprinkled some cheese on top and broiled it all together. I opted not to use ham in this recipe. The entire process took just a few minutes. Before searing, I rinsed and dried the chops then seasoned them. My partner and I absolutely loved the end result!

I enjoyed this dish, but I opted to skip the ham as I found the pork chop to be filling enough. I purchased thick-cut chips from Costco and halved them before cooking. I followed the recipe but decided to finish off the dish by melting the cheese under the broiler to prevent the pork chops from drying out. Overall, it made for a fantastic and easy dinner option!

Decent and straightforward. I skipped the ham and opted for a balsamic vinaigrette glaze, which really elevated the flavor as I had hoped.
