Pizzadilla (Grilled Pizza Sandwich) Recipe

Pizzadilla (Grilled Pizza Sandwich) Recipe

Cook Time: 20 minutes

Ingredients

  • 20 ounces prepared pizza dough
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil, divided, or as needed
  • 1 cup pizza sauce, divided
  • 8 ounces mozzarella cheese, divided
  • cup cooked Italian sausage, or to taste, divided
  • cup cooked mushrooms, or to taste, divided
  • cup cooked red onions, or to taste, divided

Directions

Step 1: Divide the pizza dough into 4 equal pieces. On a lightly floured surface, roll each piece into a circle about 1/8-inch thick.

Step 2: Heat a skillet over medium-high heat. Brush with olive oil. Place 1 piece of dough into the pan and reduce the heat to medium. Cook for 2 minutes, then flip the dough.

Step 3: Spread 1/4 cup of pizza sauce over the dough, leaving a 1/2-inch border. Sprinkle 1/4 of the mozzarella cheese on top of the sauce. Add 1/4 of the cooked sausage, mushrooms, and red onions on top of the cheese.

Step 4: Gently press in the center of the dough with a spatula to create a slight crease, then fold the dough in half, forming a half-moon shape.

Step 5: Brush the top of the folded crust with olive oil. Flip the pizzadilla over and cook on the other side until both sides are golden brown and crispy to your liking.

Step 6: Repeat steps 2 to 5 with the remaining pieces of dough and toppings.

Step 7: Once all pizzadillas are cooked, cut each one in half and serve hot.

Chef's Notes

  • I used one batch of Wolfgang Puck's Famous California Pizza Dough for this recipe.
  • When placing the dough in the pan, it may stretch a bit more, so I recommend rolling it out about an inch smaller than your pan size.
  • Feel free to customize your pizzadillas with any additional toppings you like. Just be sure they are fully cooked before adding to the pizzadilla.
