Easy Spaghetti with Tomato Sauce Recipe
Ingredients
- 1 pound lean ground beef
- 2 cups chopped tomatoes
- 1 (6 ounce) cans tomato paste
- 1 (4.5 ounce) can sliced mushrooms
- 2 tablespoons dried minced onion
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- teaspoon white sugar
- teaspoon ground black pepper
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 12 ounces spaghetti
Directions
- Step 1: Gather all the ingredients needed for the recipe.
- Step 2: Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the ground beef to the skillet and cook, stirring occasionally, until the beef is browned and crumbled, about 5 to 7 minutes. Once cooked, drain the excess grease.
- Step 3: Transfer the cooked ground beef to a large pot set over low heat. Stir in the chopped tomatoes, tomato paste, sliced mushrooms, minced onion, salt, oregano, sugar, black pepper, and garlic powder. Stir everything well to combine.
- Step 4: Cover the pot and let the mixture simmer on low heat, stirring occasionally, for 2 hours to allow the flavors to meld together.
- Step 5: Meanwhile, bring a large pot of lightly salted water to a boil. Add the spaghetti and cook according to the package instructions, stirring occasionally, until the pasta is tender but firm to the bite, about 12 minutes. Drain the spaghetti once it is cooked.
- Step 6: To serve, plate the spaghetti and top with the meat sauce. Serve immediately and enjoy your delicious spaghetti with meat sauce!

Wonderful recipe!! My family loves it!! I used 2 cans of tomato paste (6oz) and 1 can of tomato sauce along with one can of diced tomatos instead of fresh. I also used fresh mushrooms and sauteed them in olive oil for a couple of minutes before adding them. Thank you for the recipe- I will stop searching for the perfect easy spaghetti!!!

This was easy and great. I used it as a pantry meal or I would have followed the directions exactly. I subbed the oregano with fresh thyme and I only had one can of paste. I used a can of fire roasted tomatoes in place of fresh and used fresh mushrooms. I added a little water to make it not so thick. It gave us an extra meal for the week!

I like Italian Sausages (good quality sausage) links cooked separately, drain off the fat grilled. Sauce is a basic sauce recipe, I would substitute the powdered garlic with actual garlic cloves minced or chopped, I also like Marinara Sauce using chopped tomatoes & adding Fire Roasted Diced Tomatoes by Hunts. I made some Italian tomatoes sauce last evening & delicious with Contadina Tomato Paste blended into cooked sauce.

I haven't made this yet, but I'm sure it's good. One suggestion: just do the browning of the meat in the big pot you are going to simmer the sauce in. No need to use 2 pans.

I decided to give this a go. Turned out very thick, but delicious. We usually have leftovers when I do spaghetti. There were no leftovers! I used peeled chopped tomatoes, left seeds and juice. I had no tomato paste. So I used 2 cans tomato sauce. I browned my finely chopped fresh onion and minced garlic in a bit of olive oil, then added the browned goodies to the ground beef n chopped it in well. I used all the other ingredients as per the recipe except the mushroom. I still had to season to less bitter with a bit more sugar and garlic powder. I added sweet basil, done! Will double the recipe next time, due the thickness it takes more per plate. This recipe is a great base, but tweak it to your liking as any cook would! Try it!

I used fresh chopped onions and I substituted green bell pepper for the mushrooms because that's what I had. I did brown my meat, onions and bell pepper prior to simmering in the tomato mixture. Very easy to make and quite tasty.

I did like it but I had to add a couple of tablespoonfuls of dried basil which rounded it out nicely. And cut the sodium. That's it. Thanks

Ok as written this recipe just didnt work for us unfortunately. Iv made this twice first time as written the end result was very thick and as other reviewers said dry! I loved the fact that the recipe did only call for tomato paste and tomatoes especially on those weeks when my pantry is getting low. I really felt this recipe had potential so my changes were I used fresh onions and Garlic (only because I had them on hand) added about a cup of water with two cans of tomato paste and doubled the sugar we prefer a sweeter sauce! Also I did decide to cook it in my slow cooker makes my life even easier! I didnt rate this recipe based on the seasonings I based it on texture of the sauce! I feel like with any recipe you can tweak seasonings to your own personal taste! All in all It is a basic sauce for me the major problem is that it is wayyyy to thick! I will continue to use this recipe with my tweaks! I thank you for sharing this recipe it has now become the perfect base for me to make my own!!

Thanks for this great recipe... the family loved it. I left out the ground beef and served it with chicken instead. I also added a little olive oil (about 2 T.) to the sauce just to enrich it and also cut the acidity. I simmered this for just one hour and it was perfect!

Okay, I had saved this recipe months ago waiting for when I had an abundance of tomatoes from my garden. Tsk to all the nasty reviews who didn’t try and rated based on the ingredients alone or it’s “authenticity” - which, the author is not claiming. 😢 First, this is a THICK version of spaghetti sauce - almost like a bolognese. I used 3 c chopped Romas, which aren’t known to be very “juicy.” Because of this, I had to add an 8oz can of tomato sauce. Minus those two changes, made exactly as written and while this may not be “quick” - it is easy and pretty good. I added extra Parmesan cheese over each serving. We truly enjoyed this and my house smelled amazing while it cooked. Thank you Sammye!

I've made this, absolutely delicious! I did not add the sugar and used ground turkey (about 1lb) and turkey spicy sausage, used sea salt and black pepper along with McCormick Italian spice....I love adding extra herbs to give it a strong taste since I do not use much fat or sugar in my recipes! It was enough for leftovers for a whole meal (due to the meat) and I didn't have to do more than one can of each tomatoes, diced and paste. Perfect! My kids loved it too!

Insane amount of salt for such a simple dish. Even cheap generic brands have half that much. Save your future self. Find a better version

Yuk, sugar in pasta sauce. thats a sin. We arent scrounging green tomatoes in Italy post world war 2 trying to make them sweeter. I think we are past that.
