Easy Pasta Bake with Mostaccioli and Meatballs Recipe

Easy Pasta Bake with Mostaccioli and Meatballs Recipe

Cook Time: 35 minutes

Ingredients

  • pound mostaccioli pasta
  • 1 (15.5 ounce) jar spaghetti sauce, or more to taste
  • 12 frozen cooked meatballs, thawed
  • 1 (8 ounce) package shredded mozzarella cheese

Directions

Step 1: Preheat the oven to 350F (175C).

Step 2: Bring a large pot of lightly salted water to a boil. Add the pasta and cook, stirring occasionally, until tender yet firm to the bite, about 11 minutes. Drain the pasta once cooked.

Step 3: Transfer the drained pasta to a large glass baking dish. The pasta should fill about halfway to the rim of the dish.

Step 4: Pour enough spaghetti sauce over the pasta to almost cover it, adding more sauce if desired.

Step 5: Place the meatballs in a microwave-safe dish and heat them in the microwave for about 3 minutes, or until warmed through.

Step 6: Spread the heated meatballs evenly over the pasta.

Step 7: Top the pasta and meatballs with the shredded mozzarella cheese, covering the entire dish.

Step 8: Bake the dish in the preheated oven for 15 to 20 minutes, or until the cheese is completely melted and the dish is heated through.

Recipe Tip

You can use any shredded cheese you prefer instead of mozzarella for a different flavor.

We decided to get creative and mixed the meat and sauce together instead of keeping them separate. The result was amazing! My husband practically devoured the whole dish. Since we were short on shredded mozzarella, we opted for plenty of parmesan instead. What a fantastic alternative!

I have to admit, it was a breeze to put together. I followed the recipe to a T. However, it lacked excitement for me. Surprisingly, my husband thought it was fantastic. As for my son and I, we were underwhelmed. If I were to make it again, I'd definitely throw in some onions, maybe a handful of mushrooms, and a hint of cayenne for a little kick. Remixing it with different cheeses also sounds like a promising idea!

I always keep meatballs in the freezer and cheese in the fridge! It's just my dog and me, so I don't bake much, but we enjoy this meal frequently. He eats whatever I eat.

I completely agree with glassycat2330! The title says it all: "Easy...". I'll swap in my own tomato sauce, use my homemade meatballs, and maybe include ricotta (sometimes homemade from milk) along with the mozzarella. Who cares about the criticism? It's all about the simplicity of the ingredients! Relax and enjoy a delicious meal. Buon appetito!
