Original recipe (1X) yields 5 servings:

  • Nonstick cooking spray
  • 1 tablespoon unsalted butter
  • 1 cup roughly chopped carrots
  • cup chopped celery
  • 1 small onion, diced
  • 2 cups cubed cooked turkey
  • 2 cups prepared stuffing, or more to taste
  • cup turkey broth
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • teaspoon ground black pepper
  • teaspoon granulated garlic
  • 1 pinch dried thyme
  • Sauce:

  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, divided
  • 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup turkey broth
  • teaspoon salt
  • teaspoon dried thyme
  • teaspoon granulated onion
  • 1 pinch poultry seasoning
  • cup fresh bread crumbs

Directions

Step 1: Preheat the oven to 375F (190C). Grease an 8x8-inch casserole dish with cooking spray.

Step 2: Melt butter in a skillet over medium-high heat. Add carrots, celery, and onion, sauting until softened, about 5 minutes.

Step 3: Add cubed turkey, stuffing, turkey broth, salt, pepper, garlic, and thyme. Stir to combine and transfer the mixture into the prepared casserole dish.

Step 4: For the sauce, melt 1 tablespoon of butter in a saucepan over medium-high heat. Stir in the flour and mix until a paste forms.

Step 5: Pour in 1 cup of turkey broth and season with salt, thyme, onion, garlic, pepper, and poultry seasoning. Stir to combine.

Step 6: Pour the sauce over the turkey mixture in the casserole dish, ensuring an even coating.

Step 7: Bake in the preheated oven, uncovered, for 30 minutes.

Step 8: Remove the casserole from the oven and top with fresh bread crumbs. Melt the remaining butter and drizzle it over the breadcrumbs.

Step 9: Set an oven rack about 6 inches from the heat source and preheat the ovens broiler.

Step 10: Broil the casserole until the bread crumbs are golden and toasted, about 2 minutes.

Step 11: Serve immediately.

Cook's Note:

Make your own bread crumbs from 1 to 2 dinner rolls.
