Air Fryer Breaded Shrimp Recipe

Cook Time: 10 minutes

Ingredients

This recipe was developed at its original yield. Ingredient amounts are automatically adjusted, but cooking times and steps remain unchanged. Note that not all recipes scale perfectly.

Original recipe (1X) yields 4 servings:

  • cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon seafood seasoning (such as Old Bay)
  • tablespoon paprika
  • teaspoon salt
  • teaspoon dried parsley
  • teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 2 large eggs, beaten
  • 12 ounces large shrimp, peeled, deveined, tails left on
  • Nonstick cooking spray

Directions

Step 1: Preheat your air fryer to 400F (200C).

Step 2: In a gallon-sized resealable plastic bag, combine the flour, seafood seasoning, paprika, salt, parsley, and black pepper. Seal and shake the bag well to mix evenly.

Step 3: Pour the beaten eggs into a shallow bowl for dipping.

Step 4: Pat the shrimp dry with paper towels to remove excess moisture.

Step 5: Working in batches, place the shrimp in the seasoned flour mixture and toss to coat evenly.

Step 6: Dip the floured shrimp into the beaten eggs, then return them to the flour mixture for a second coating.

Step 7: Arrange the breaded shrimp in the air fryer basket, ensuring they are not crowded. Lightly spray the tops with nonstick cooking spray.

Step 8: Cook the shrimp in the preheated air fryer for 4 minutes. Remove the lid and lightly spray any dry spots with additional nonstick spray.

Step 9: Close the lid and continue cooking for another 3 minutes, or until the shrimp reach your desired crispness.

I made two batches. The first batch was really good. The second I added grated Parmesan cheese to the batter and it was over the top good. Added 3 minutes to the cooking time due to using large shrimp.

I think it was the bay seasoning that made it far less than enjoyable unfortunately. Nice, simple recipe but next time I’d definitely substitute that seasoning for something else entirely. Re The timing in the air fryer I added about 5 minutes making the total time cooking 13 minutes. The shrimp were perfect and tender. Definitely a quick go to dinner or snack with some sauce on the side and a veggie.

These turned out tasty! I fried a little longer and kept adding oil because I like them very crispy. Swapped half of the flour for cornmeal, that gave the breading a nice extra crunch!

Easy and flavorful. Definitely make again. Used extra large shrimp & butterflied. Would use larger shrimp next time.

It was terrible. Super dry and not appealing. Don't waste your time and your shrimps.

My family does not like seafood seasoning. So I used Garlic Salt and Powder in its place. Was good.

I found it quite messy, and the flavor was not satisfactory. Maybe it was user error, but until I come across an air fryer recipe that tastes better, I'll fry or grill.

The Air Fryer Breaded Shrimp was impressive. Old Bay brought out the flavor of both the shrimp and the breading. Great as an appetizer or as an entree with a salad and corn cakes!
