Nana's Apple Crumble

Nana's Apple Crumble

Cook Time: 55 minutes

Ingredients

This recipe was developed at its original yield. Ingredient amounts are automatically adjusted, but cooking times and steps remain unchanged. Note that not all recipes scale perfectly.

Original Recipe (1X) Yields 10 servings

  • 7 large Cortland apples, peeled, cored, and sliced
  • 1 cup white sugar
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon, or more to taste

Topping

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • cup brown sugar
  • cup unsalted butter, cubed

Directions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350F (175C).
  2. Spread the sliced apples evenly in a deep dish pie plate or an 8-inch square glass casserole dish.
  3. Sprinkle the apples with white sugar and top with ground cinnamon.
  4. For the topping, combine flour and brown sugar in a bowl. Add the cubed butter and cut it in using a pastry blender until the mixture becomes crumbly.
  5. Evenly spread the topping over the apple mixture and press it down gently.
  6. Bake in the preheated oven for about 55 minutes, or until the apple mixture is bubbling and the topping is golden brown.

Recipe Tip

If you are preparing this recipe for a larger group, consider doubling the ingredients. For the topping, increase both the butter and brown sugar by 1 tablespoon each, and bake in a 9x12-inch casserole dish for best results.

11.21.20 I didn’t realize until about 5 minutes into baking that I forgot to add the cinnamon, so I just pulled it out of the oven and sprinkled it over the crumb topping which worked out fine. Simply put, this is one delicious apple crumble! Using my apple peeler and my 16-cut apple slicer, this was so darn easy to make. And it was served with french vanilla ice cream, as suggested. Delicious, wouldn’t hesitate to make this again. Thanks Heather Clements for sharing.

I liked this because it is not all bready or oaty or cakey. I wanted to eat this with gelato and remove a few carbs. Its good on that front. I stirred it half way through baking becauce the flour was still dry. My apples were not very juicy. It just needs something. A pinch of salt or a sqeeze of lemon? would make this again, but add a few pears.

This was really good. Like, melt in your mouth and audibly moan because it tastes like heaven good. Me and my sister loved it! Definitely going to make it again. It tasted especially good with vanilla ice cream.
