Pan Cream Puff Recipe

Cook Time: 30 minutes

Ingredients

This recipe was developed at its original yield. Ingredient amounts are automatically adjusted, but cooking times and steps remain unchanged. Note that not all recipes scale perfectly.

Original recipe (1X) yields 18 servings:

  • cup margarine
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 4 eggs
  • 1 (8 ounce) package cream cheese, at room temperature
  • 3 cups milk
  • 2 (3 ounce) packages instant vanilla pudding mix
  • 1 (16 ounce) package frozen whipped topping, thawed
  • cup chocolate syrup
  • 1 cup sliced almonds

Directions

  1. Step 1: Preheat the oven to 400F (200C). Grease and flour a 9x13-inch baking pan.
  2. Step 2: In a saucepan or microwave, bring water and margarine to a boil. Remove from heat and stir in the flour. Beat in the eggs one at a time.
  3. Step 3: Spread the mixture evenly in the prepared pan. Bake for about 25 minutes, until puffed and golden. Press down any large bubbles with a wooden spoon. Let it cool for 30 to 45 minutes.
  4. Step 4: In a separate bowl, beat the cream cheese until fluffy. Stir in the milk and instant pudding mix, and continue beating until the mixture thickens.
  5. Step 5: Spread the thickened cream cheese mixture over the cooled puff pastry.
  6. Step 6: Top with whipped topping, drizzle with chocolate syrup, and sprinkle with sliced almonds.
  7. Step 7: Refrigerate for 24 hours before serving to allow the flavors to set.

Excellent and convenient. It tasted just like my mom's homemade dish, so it was not only delicious but also nostalgic. I opted for sugar-free pudding to reduce the sugar content, yet it still turned out fantastic! Definitely a recipe worth saving for future use!

I rated this recipe 4 stars because it was good, but I found a better version on a different website. The other recipe included 1/2 tsp of salt and 1 tbsp of sugar in the crust, which made it more airy and delicious. Despite my initial concerns about the crust in this recipe, I ended up making both versions and preferred the one with the added salt and sugar. Overall, a decent recipe but the other one takes the cake.

I made this recipe last night and found it to be simple and fast to prepare. Lacking pudding at home, I substituted a mousse mix that I had on hand. I decided to use only one cup of milk for the mousse and prepared the puff layer in a smaller 8 x 8 square glass cake pan so that the mousse would fully cover the pastry. Additionally, I whipped fresh cream with powdered sugar to help it hold its shape, and it turned out just right. The dessert turned out exactly as I had envisioned, and now I'm struggling to keep my partner from devouring the entire pan!

This recipe is fantastic! I've made it multiple times with various pudding flavors. Our family's top choice is adding coconut pudding and sprinkling extra toasted coconut on top of the cool whip. So delicious!

Super convenient, incredibly flavorful, and immediately sparked interest from friends asking for the recipe. We will definitely be preparing this dish time and time again. I opted for adding chocolate chips on the top, which was a delicious choice.

Review rewritten: Absolutely delicious and delightful! It was a hit with everyone. Whether you choose vanilla or chocolate pudding, both are fantastic. The cook and serve pudding has a slightly superior taste, and freshly made whipped cream elevates the dish with added richness. Overall, a fantastic recipe that is simple to prepare.

I recently tried out this recipe on my new gas range, specifically to test the oven. All I can say is...WOW!!! Not only was this recipe simple to follow, but it was also incredibly delicious. I opted not to use chocolate syrup since neither my husband nor I are fans of it. Instead, I sliced some strawberries and placed them on top. I did need to extend the baking time for the cream puff to 35 minutes, and it came out a lovely golden brown. This recipe is definitely a keeper, and I am grateful to Zipity for sharing it.

I really enjoy this recipe, but I prefer it with more pudding. I use two large boxes of pudding and 5 1/4 cups of milk instead of the suggested two small boxes and 3 1/2 cups of milk.

I took 2 pans to our church's Fish Fry and they were a hit - gone in no time, except for a few pieces that the dessert table ladies saved for themselves! The recipe was incredibly easy to follow, and preparing it a day in advance really helped with my hectic schedule. I skipped the almonds and whipped up my own cream, just my personal choice.

I prepared this dessert using sugar-free pistachio pudding and added a sprinkle of pecans on top before serving. Personally, I really enjoyed the entire dish, although my household members weren't fans of the cream puff crust and only had the filling. Despite differing opinions, I am still rating this recipe 5 stars.

I tried this dessert last night and it was incredibly delicious! I recommend using butter instead of margarine and we decided to omit the chocolate and nuts. French Vanilla pudding adds more flavor than regular pudding. You can also use sugar-free ingredients and it's still amazing! Overall, it's a versatile and not overly sweet dessert, perfect for any occasion.

This recipe has been a beloved dessert in our family for more than two decades. My mother shared it with me on a recipe card 23 years ago, and I'm thrilled to have stumbled upon it here to add to my online collection. Taking a slight twist on tradition today, I've decided to present it in a clear trifle bowl. It may require extra effort on my part, but I'm confident it will be just as scrumptious!

This recipe was quick yet delightful. Much simpler than making cream puffs. I opted for chocolate pudding which was a great choice. Planning to top it off with caramel sauce next time.

Much simpler than making individual cream puffs. Perfect for bringing to a big event, just tricky to prevent leftovers from becoming soggy.

Yum! I used a whole bottle of hot fudge sauce and reduced the amount of almonds. I think it could have used more chocolate though. The dessert was a hit at the church potluck - there was only one piece left, which I gave to a friend.
