What Is In Biscotti?

Youll need just six ingredients to make this biscotti recipe:

  • Sugar: This biscotti recipe starts with a cup of white sugar.
  • Oil: This biscotti recipe uses vegetable oil instead of butter, which results in a lighter and crispier finished product.
  • Eggs: Eggs add moisture and help bind the biscotti dough together.
  • Anise extract: Flavor the homemade biscotti with anise extract.
  • Flour: All-purpose flour gives the biscotti dough structure.
  • Baking powder: Baking powder acts as a leavener, which means it helps the biscotti rise.

This biscotti recipe is truly exceptional - perfectly crispy, crunchy, with a gently sweet flavor that stands out from the overly hard store-bought versions. I tried it out for the first time last week, following the recipe closely but opting for almond flavoring over anise. Like many others, I found that the baking time needed was shorter than stated, so keep a close eye on it in the oven. I have a few tips to offer for those who may have had less than stellar results. Do not be tempted to add extra flour; stick to the recipe instructions and divide the dough directly onto greased baking sheets. Shape the dough into a long roll that stretches the length of the sheets using your hands, then flatten it into a rectangle about 4" wide and 1/2" thick using your fingers or a rolling pin. After baking, cut the still-hot biscotti into strips with a pizza cutter, then return them to the oven as directed. This method worked perfectly for me and made the process much simpler than dealing with a sticky dough roll and crumbly finished product. Hopefully, these tips will help others achieve great results and inspire them to give it another go. This recipe is incredibly easy and the final product is delicious with just the listed ingredients. I wish I could give it more stars! I can't resist reaching for one more from the cookie jar.

I decided to enhance the flavor by adding extra anise and incorporating the grated zest of one lemon and one orange. Adjusting the baking temperature, I started at 350 degrees for the initial bake and then lowered it to 325 degrees for the second bake. After allowing the cookies to cool, I dipped one side in a combination of melted chocolate and 1 tsp of Crisco shortening. While they took a bit longer to dry, the end result was definitely worth the patience.

Absolutely delicious! After reading numerous reviews, I decided to try making two different batches of biscotti. The first batch featured anise extract, nuts, and white chocolate morsels, while the second batch included vanilla extract, almond extract, chopped almonds, and white chocolate morsels. Both variations were delightful, but my personal favorite was the biscotti with anise extract. In my next attempt, I plan to increase the extract amount for an even more intense flavor. I took the advice of some reviewers and reduced the cooking time to 18 minutes, then 6 minutes on each side, although the optimal timing may vary depending on your oven and desired biscotti texture. Interestingly, the cookie's flavor seemed to deepen even further the day after baking. Overall, these biscotti were a hit and I am grateful for the wonderful recipe shared. Thank you!

This biscotti recipe has been my favorite for over 15 years now. It's incredibly versatile and can be customized to suit any taste. Everyone I've shared these with has raved about them. One of my favorite variations is adding pistachios and chopped cranberries for a festive touch during the holidays, and then finishing them off with a drizzle of dark chocolate. Another delicious option is mixing in almonds and coating them with cinnamon sugar before baking. I cannot express enough how much I adore this recipe - it's a true winner!

Great recipe! I substituted vanilla for anise and although it was a bit burnt, it was still delicious to enjoy with my coffee.

Excellent. I included a cup of almond pulp from my almond cow and a handful of craisins in the recipe. I also decreased the sugar to 1/2 cup.
