Homemade Chili Sauce Recipe

Ingredients

  • 1 cup tomato sauce
  • cup brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons vinegar
  • teaspoon chili powder or allspice (to taste)
  • 1 pinch crushed red chili flakes (optional, to taste)

Directions

  1. Gather all the ingredients.
  2. In a mixing bowl, stir together the tomato sauce, brown sugar, vinegar, and chili powder until everything is well blended.
  3. Season with chili flakes to your taste (optional for extra spice).
  4. Transfer the sauce into a covered .
  5. Refrigerate the sauce until ready to use.

The only modification I made was simmering it longer to thicken the sauce, as I used it for making cocktail sauce.

I usually don't have chili sauce stocked, but I always have these ingredients at home. If I ever need chili sauce, I won't think twice about making this recipe again. I might reduce the amount of brown sugar next time, but overall, this is an excellent alternative to Heinz chili sauce.
