I reside in Spain, so I had some difficulty finding certain ingredients for this recipe. I decided to elevate the dish by using mild Emmenthal instead of American cheese, French bread cubes (including the crust) instead of wonder bread, and a tablespoon of Dijon mustard in place of dry mustard. We savored this casserole on Christmas morning and truly relished it!

Absolutely delicious! I prepared this for a brunch at work, and everyone kept asking for the recipe. I opted for ground sausage instead of sausage links (specifically Jimmy Dean's Country Style), and baked it for around 80 minutes due to using a smaller, deeper casserole dish. It turned out perfect.

The issue lies in the excessive amount of milk required – I find that using 2 cups instead of 3, as I do in all my egg casseroles, would have prevented this one from turning out soggy.

This breakfast casserole was hands down the best I've ever made! I did tweak the recipe a bit by omitting the mustard, although I might try it next time. I used a combination of bacon and a touch of Jimmy Dean Sausage in place of ham for the base layer. I added homemade hash browns made from 3 small potatoes, followed by half of the cheese, more bacon, a layer of 3 slices of 7-grain bread (instead of the full amount due to the potatoes), and finished off with the remaining cheese. The result was absolutely outstanding!

Review rewritten: I made a delicious Jimmy Dean sausage bread with layers of chopped salami, Swiss cheese, cheddar cheese, and Velveeta. I sprinkled chopped green and red peppers, along with mushrooms on top. I accidentally added too much cumin, but if not for my young children, I would have added onions and chorizo. Despite the mishap, it turned out incredible and I'll treasure this recipe forever!

This recipe is fantastic! I followed the instructions closely but adjusted the quantities to make four servings instead of eight. I also took others' advice and reduced the amount of milk to 1 cup instead of 1 1/2, resulting in a perfect consistency without any sogginess. For my next attempt, I plan to make a few tweaks: 1. Stick with the lesser amount of milk. 2. Skip the salt as the ham provides enough saltiness. 3. Include some black pepper for extra flavor. 4. Enhance the dish with finely chopped green and red bell peppers for a festive touch. 5. Bake it on a lower oven rack to prevent excessive browning on top. These minor adjustments will only improve an already excellent recipe - definitely a keeper! I may even consider making it on a different occasion other than Christmas!

I would only make one change to this recipe - reduce the amount of milk. The original calls for 3 cups, but I found that using 2 cups worked better. Additionally, I replaced the recommended bread with rye bread, crust included, which added a distinct and delicious flavor to the dish.

This recipe turned out to be a total disaster. I followed the instructions exactly and ended up with a soggy mess. Unfortunately, I had to throw it out. Such a waste of ingredients.

This breakfast casserole has been a staple in my kitchen for years. It serves as a fantastic foundation, and we've experimented with various twists and additions. I usually incorporate a few extra eggs to balance out the vegetables and ensure the casserole stays light and fluffy. Inclusion of breakfast sausage, bacon, ham, or chorizo, as well as swapping old English cheese or cheddar, all result in delicious outcomes. While the base recipe is solid, we prefer a bit more flavor complexity. Adding sausage, ham, or bacon eliminates the need for extra salt, but we enjoy incorporating a blend of seasonings for an extra kick. Overall, you can't go wrong with this versatile dish.

This has been a long-time favorite in our family too! Instead of American cheese, I prefer using Kraft Old English Cheese Spread.

Everybody liked it, but no one requested the recipe. It was a bit too watery, as if it needed an extra ingredient. Next time, I might consider adding hash brown potatoes into the mix.
