Homemade Tomato Juice Cocktail Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups water
  • 1 (6 ounce) can tomato paste
  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice
  • 2 tablespoons white sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt, or to taste
  • 3 cups water (more if needed)

Directions:

  1. In a blender, combine 2 cups of water, tomato paste, lemon juice, sugar, and salt. Blend until smooth.
  2. Pour the blended mixture into a 1/2 gallon .
  3. Add 3 cups of water to the mixture and stir well.
  4. Refrigerate the mixture for about 1 hour, or until it thickens to your desired consistency.
  5. If the juice is too thick, add an additional cup of water to reach the preferred consistency.

I was pleasantly surprised by this product. It makes a delicious tomato juice cocktail. I may reduce the sugar slightly next time as it was a bit too sweet for my taste. Since I always have tomato paste on hand, I don't think I'll be purchasing V-8 again, as this serves as a great substitute. We prefer our tomato juice spicy, so I added some Tabasco and a dash of celery salt, which resulted in a drink similar to Spicy V-8 Juice Cocktail (just add vodka for a Bloody Mary). It's flavorful, simple to prepare, and budget-friendly. This recipe is a definite keeper for us.

When I first created this recipe, the tomato paste I used was significantly denser. As a result, I suggest reducing the amount of water by a full cup for better consistency.

Tastes just like the well-known brand that everyone is familiar with. The only change I made was doubling the recipe. I only used one 12 oz can of tomato paste and estimated the amount of sugar because I prefer it less sweet. I used 4 cups of water, adding salt gradually to taste, and a bit of pepper. I didn't need to add more water. After refrigerating for about 2 hours, the flavor and texture were just right. I rated it five stars for its simplicity and flavor.

I absolutely adore this straightforward recipe! It serves as the perfect foundation for my tomato-clam cocktail. I enhance it with Worcestershire sauce, Tabasco sauce, onion powder, garlic powder, celery salt, black pepper, fish sauce, and swap out one cup of water for one cup of clam juice. The end result is simply delicious!

I absolutely love this recipe! I made a slight tweak by using 1/2 teaspoon of salt and 1/2 teaspoon of celery salt instead of the full teaspoon of salt. This addition really enhanced the flavor of the juice.

I was not particularly impressed with this product as it only yielded six servings and was lacking in spices like celery salt needed to enhance its flavor. My mom used to make the most delicious tomato juice that she canned herself. Whenever we made juice, we would end up with around 20 quart jars or even more, which would last us until the following summer/fall when we would make another batch. If only I knew her recipe!
