Mini quiches are a versatile, easy-to-make dish, ideal for breakfast, brunch, or as appetizers for a party. This Easy Mini Quiche recipe is a quick take on the classic quiche, baked in muffin tins for individual servings. It combines simple ingredients like bread, eggs, cheese, and milk, offering a delightful bite-sized snack.
History of Mini Quiche
The quiche, originally from Germany and later popularized in France, has been a beloved dish in European cuisine for centuries. The word "quiche" comes from the German word Kuchen, meaning "cake." Traditionally, quiches were made with pastry dough filled with eggs, cream, cheese, and other ingredients. Over time, quiche became a staple in French and British kitchens, particularly as a savory option for breakfast or lunch. The mini quiche, however, is a modern twist that caters to convenience and portion control, making it ideal for casual gatherings or quick meals.
Regional Variations
While the concept of quiche is widespread, there are regional variations in the fillings and crust. The most famous variety is the Quiche Lorraine, originating from the Lorraine region of France, which traditionally includes bacon and cheese. Mini quiches, on the other hand, are more adaptable and can be made with a variety of fillings like spinach, mushrooms, or ham. In the U.S., these mini versions often replace the traditional pastry crust with bread or phyllo dough, making them lighter and quicker to prepare.
What Sets It Apart from Other Dishes
Mini quiches stand out from similar dishes like frittatas or savory muffins due to their flakier, crust-based nature (in traditional versions) and their individual portion sizes. Unlike a frittata, which is typically cooked in a skillet and served as a whole dish, mini quiches are baked in small muffin tins, allowing for easy handling and customization. They also tend to have a more delicate, crisp texture, thanks to their crust, compared to the more rustic, egg-heavy frittata.
Where Mini Quiche is Commonly Served
Mini quiches are often served at brunches, cocktail parties, or as part of a buffet. Their small, individual size makes them easy to serve and eat without the need for utensils, making them a favorite at social gatherings and potlucks. In France, mini quiches may appear in bakeries and cafs as a snack or a light meal option. In the U.S., they are a popular choice for holiday breakfasts, baby showers, and even as a savory addition to a picnic basket.
Interesting Facts about Mini Quiche

- Mini quiches can be frozen for up to 3 months. They make an excellent make-ahead option for busy mornings or large gatherings.
- Despite being a versatile dish, the most common ingredients in mini quiches are eggs, cheese, milk, and a savory filling of choice like spinach, mushrooms, or bacon.

This was fantastic! I made some modifications that turned out wonderfully and wanted to share them. I used phyllo dough that lined the muffin tins neatly and extended up the sides. Additionally, I increased the amount of salt, garlic powder, and used sharp cheddar cheese. The result was simply delicious!

I tried making these mini quiches using both a dark non-stick muffin tin and a regular tin. After buttering and cutting out circles of bread to line the cups, I filled them with a delicious mixture of diced turkey bacon, onion, and gouda cheese. The egg mixture filled 24 cups perfectly, but I had to top them off as the bread absorbed a lot of liquid. They turned out tasty, but I recommend greasing the regular muffin tin for easier removal. Overall, I would make these again.

These "Easy Mini Quiche" truly lived up to their name! They were incredibly simple to prepare and made for a delightful last-minute appetizer. I used a biscuit cutter to shape the bread into perfect circles, then placed them in the muffin tins sprayed with Pam. I customized the recipe by adding an extra egg, Canadian bacon, a dash of salt, garlic powder, onion powder, and green onions. I also swapped out Swiss cheese for American cheese. The result was fantastic, and I will definitely be making these again.

I made these mini muffins using a muffin tin and a calorie-conscious approach. I swapped in light bread (45 calories per slice), egg whites, skim milk, and diced ham. They were simple to prepare and turned out perfectly cooked. Thanks for the recipe! I baked them at 375°F for 15 minutes.

On May 26, 2016, I decided to try out a new recipe using a cookie cutter to shape the bread, and I was pleasantly surprised by how quick and easy it was. Using a 1-7/8" round cookie cutter, I managed to cut three perfect rounds from each slice of bread, which fit perfectly into the muffin cup. This recipe serves as a great base where you can customize and make it your own by incorporating additional ingredients. For a touch of Mexican flavor, I opted for Mexican 4-Cheese Blend, diced red bell pepper, fresh cilantro, a sprinkle of taco seasoning, and a dash of Sriracha. The resulting flavor was delightful, although I was slightly disappointed that the quiches deflated rapidly after baking, akin to a soufflé. I adjusted the recipe to make six portions, and that's precisely what I ended up with. While I would rate this recipe 5 stars for taste, I would give it 4 stars for visual appeal.

I used this recipe as a foundation for my inaugural attempt at making quiche. I opted for sourdough bread as the base, filled it with chicken, onion, broccoli, red bell pepper, and a sprinkle of mushrooms, then generously topped it with sharp cheddar. I ended up making 24 mini quiches, and had to adjust the milk (2 cups) and eggs (6) quantities to ensure I had enough for all. Despite the bottoms turning out a tad soggy due to my oven's performance, I left them in a bit longer to firm up. This dish will definitely become a regular feature on our dining table!

I am rating this product three stars because my husband enjoyed it. Personally, I found it to be too labor-intensive for just an average outcome.
