This was delicious! Rich and decadent. Very flavorful. This was the third recipe I tried before knowing I had a winner for my family Christmas brunch. The only change I made was to use milk chocolate chips instead of semi-sweet.

I read other reviews, and took recommendations for the sweetness level to heart. As such, the first thing I did differently was only use half the amount of sweetened condensed milk. Then I also added extra milk (8 cups, or an entire half gallon), though I kept the other ratios of ingredients the same. Only other thing I changed was adding another half teaspoon of vanilla extract. I put my own spin on it by adding a quarter cup of Dutch processed cocoa powder, and an entire 5oz bag of soft peppermint sticks (the type the Dollar Tree carries). Let it rip, and checked every 15 minutes until I was sure everything was melding properly. I don't like hot cocoa, and didn't drink it. My family raved - best cocoa ever, and wouldn't let one drop go to waste.

I used milk chocolate chips instead of semisweet, and I also added dutch cocoa, I wanted it more chocolaty. I had it on high for 2.5 hours, stirring/whisking ever .5 hour ; in the last .5 hour I boiled an 1/8 cup of water and dissolved 4 tbsp of dutch cocoa in it, I then whisked this into the mix until it was incorporated. Then turned the crock-pot to keep warm. Everybody RAVED about it. Comments were "I didn't think I would like this but I LOVED it!" "Can I PLEASE have the recipe?" I served it with peanut-butter cookies. This was a small Christmas Eve get together for those in our building who were alone on the holiday to spread a little cheer, and I'm SO happy I did this, exactly those I wanted to show up did

This was excellent for a holiday party, but agree with most of the reviewers here: cut the sweetened condensed milk by half, and consider using dark chocolate chips. It’s plenty sweet and thickens up nicely. As it continues to warm, stir occasionally so it doesn’t stick to the bottom. Be sure to have marshmallows or thick whipped cream to serve!

I made this last night for a group of middle school/high school girls. I can’t even begin to tell you how much they loved it. I thought I would have tons of left overs as I doubled the recipe to be safe. Well, I ran out and had to quickly make a 3rd batch and it was also wiped out ! I did add a little milk chocolate candy bar to it and did it on the stove in my Dutch oven because I ran out of time to simmer in the crock pot. I will be making this all the time this winter. Thank you!!!!

The only change I made was adding 1 teaspoon of salt to enhance the sweet flavor. This recipe was a great hit at our family Christmas Get Together Party!

Scrumptious! Made this for an office Hot Cocoa Bar and it was a huge hit. We used big crock pots and doubled the recipe. Since it was 4 cups of chocolate chips, we cooked them on high for two hours. It takes a little longer when you double so be sure to account for the extra time. Turn it down on low after it gets hot though. Absolutely delicious with marshmallows on a sugar cane, dipped in milk chocolate and rolled in peppermint chips. Yum!!!

This is delicious and so easy! I’ll probably never use store bought again. I gave it 4 stars because I made one change, I cut the sweetened condensed milk in half. The first time I made it I followed the recipe and it was way too sweet. Second time I cut it in half and it was perfection! Everyone loved it. Very filling!

I made this with dark chocolate morsels, and it was a big hit. This hot chocolate had plenty of rich flavor and was simple to make. After trying this straight and with peppermint whipped cream, it's become our new favorite recipe.

Super yummy! But very very rich. I have found that we like it best when we use semi sweet chocolate chips, half the sweetened condensed milk, and don't add any cream. It's still rich, but doesn't make us as sick.

Easy to make - but - it was SO sweet. Even my 9 yr old (who loves sweets) said it was too much for her. On the second try, I cut the condensed milk in half and used two additional cups of milk. It was still insanely sweet. Just beware!

Even my roommate who hates cooking loved it.

Our family likes sweet but this recipe is far too sweet, even for us. The chocolate flavor is good but as is, it's too sweet to be edible. I ended up salvaging it by adding several cups more of milk and some half & half mixed with powdered unsweetened chocolate but I won't be making this recipe again. *I used dark chocolate chips instead of semi-sweet bc of reviews that it was too sweet with the semi-sweet

So I'm sure this would have been great except I used a multi purpose cooker, a rice cooker that can also function as a slow cooker and make soups. After putting all of the ingredients in and putting the lid on i did stir a few times within about an hour the milk started coming out of the vents on top of the rice cooker. It was unfortunate however it did make everyone laugh. So my advice is don't make in a cooker where it's not easy to check that the milk isn't bubbling over and stay close enough by to catch it if anything happens.

I made this a couple of years ago to serve after Christmas Eve church service and it has become a tradition every year. I make the '4x' amount and there is never any leftover. Very easy to make and it is delicious!

Delicious and easy especially for a crowd. I took this to the office for a hot chocolate bar. I reduced the sweetened condensed milk by one third because my husband said during my test recipe it was very sweet. Served this with soft peppermint sticks, whipped cream, caramel sauce, and mini marshmallows!
