Baked Mummy Jalapeno Poppers Recipe
This fun and tasty appetizer is a perfect combination of spicy, creamy, and savory flavors. Its easy to make and guaranteed to be a hit at any party or gathering.
Ingredients
- 5 ounces cream cheese, softened
- 3 ounces shredded Cheddar cheese
- Salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste
- 6 large fresh jalapeno peppers, halved lengthwise and seeded
- 1 (10 ounce) can refrigerated crescent rolls
- 1 egg, beaten
- 1 tablespoon milk, or as needed
- cup all-purpose flour
- 24 candy eyeballs
Directions
Step 1: Gather all the ingredients and preheat your oven to 350F (175C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper to prevent sticking.
Step 2: In a bowl, combine softened cream cheese and shredded Cheddar cheese. Season the mixture with salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste. Stir until fully combined.
Step 3: Cut the jalapeno peppers in half lengthwise and remove the seeds. Spoon the cheese mixture into each jalapeno half, filling them generously.
Step 4: Roll out the crescent dough on a lightly floured surface. Using a pizza cutter or small knife, cut the dough into thin strips.
Step 5: Wrap each stuffed jalapeno with a strip of dough, leaving a small section of the top uncovered where the candy eyeballs will go. Make sure the dough is wrapped securely around each pepper.
Step 6: In a separate bowl, beat together the egg and milk. In another bowl, add flour and season it with salt and pepper.
Step 7: Dip each stuffed jalapeno into the egg mixture, then roll it in the seasoned flour, ensuring it is evenly coated.
Step 8: Place the coated jalapenos on the prepared baking sheet and bake them in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes, or until the dough is lightly browned and crispy.
Step 9: Once baked, remove the jalapenos from the oven and carefully place a candy eyeball on top of each one. The heat from the peppers will melt the cheese, allowing the eyeballs to stick.
Step 10: Serve immediately and enjoy these creepy, cheesy jalapenos at your next event!

I was pleasantly surprised by how much the kids enjoyed them! Even I, who isn't a fan of spicy peppers, found myself liking these.

I added cooked chorizo to the cream cheese and cheddar mixture. I brought it to an office lunch that started at 11. It was all gone by 11:30! The candy eyes seemed strange to me, so I might try adding cream cheese drops with caraway seeds or tiny black olive bits next time.

Slightly lacking in flavor and lacked spiciness. It was well-received by my guests and served as a unique appetizer.
