Spinach Rolls with Puff Pastry Recipe
Ingredients
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
- 1 clove garlic, minced (or more to taste)
- 1 (10 ounce) package frozen chopped spinach, thawed and drained
- Salt to taste
- 1 (4 ounce) package crumbled feta cheese
- 3 sheets frozen puff pastry, thawed
- 1 large egg, beaten
- 1 tablespoon milk
- 2 tablespoons sesame seeds
Directions
- Heat vegetable oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add minced garlic and cook for 1 to 2 minutes, or until fragrant.
- Stir in the thawed spinach and cook for 3 to 5 minutes, until warmed through. Season with salt to taste and mix well.
- Transfer the spinach mixture to a bowl and stir in the crumbled feta cheese until fully combined.
- Preheat your oven to 400F (200C). Grease two baking sheets with a light coating of oil or cooking spray.
- On a lightly floured surface, lay one sheet of puff pastry and cut it in half lengthwise. Roll out one half of the pastry with a rolling pin until it is wide enough to fold twice lengthwise.
- In a small bowl, mix the beaten egg with the milk to make the egg wash.
- Spread one-sixth of the spinach and feta mixture lengthwise along the center of the pastry.
- Fold one side of the pastry over the filling, then brush the exposed edge with the egg wash. Fold the other side over and press to seal the edges.
- Brush the top of the roll with the remaining egg wash and sprinkle sesame seeds on top.
- Using a sharp knife, cut the roll into 6 equal pieces.
- Repeat the process with the remaining sheets of puff pastry and spinach filling.
- Place the cut rolls onto the prepared baking sheets, spacing them evenly apart.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 20 to 25 minutes, or until the rolls are puffed up and golden brown.

I fell in love with spinach rolls from a restaurant, too expensive. I bought the ingredients and did not try this recipe for 3 days, once I started, it was so simple and quick. I substituted pastry with tortilla and pan fried in just a touch of olive oil, I also added a little shredded grilled chicken breast. Next time I will saute and add mushrooms and use the puff pastry, It will last longer than flour tortilla.

Great recipe. I added a bit of dill to the spinach mixture for added flavor. Made these as a super bowl snack, with goal of adding more greenery to the spread, and they were a big hit. I served with homemade tsatziki.

I didn’t have enough feta so I added some mozzarella and cream cheese to the feta. While I was at it, I added thick crumbled bacon. Also I topped with poppy seeds because I have a sesame seed sensitivity. Absolutely delicious. My husband LOVES these! I will make these again for sure.

These were super easy to make and made a nice presentation to our Super Bowl spread this year. We felt that the flavor could have been a little more pronounced. Maybe a little more garlic next time. Thanks for sharing this recipe!.

I made them a bit larger because we decided to try this recipe on our Veggie night. I am not really a feta fan...I wanted something more melty, but I followed this recipe exact. I was pleasantly surprised that the combination was great, and very filling. If I were to make them as an appetizer, I'd just do one roll instead of 2. I also added chicken to one half to see how that would work. Saving those for lunch.

These were a big hit! I added a bit of onion, dill, and egg to the spinach recipe (from a Spanakopita recipe), it probably would have been fine without, I’m just used to that flavor. I also made my own puff pastry. The recipe was easy and delicious!

Excellent version of the Greek spanakopita! Very easy to make. Having make spanakopita before, I added a dash of lemon juice to the spinach for that authentic taste. The egg wash does hold the dough together and allows it to puff up into delicate pillows of wonderful flavor! I may have cut mine smaller so they are a one bite appetizer. Any size is perfect! These are absolutely delicious and is a fast and easy appetizer for any event! Did I mention they were quick and easy too?

I have made these so many times I can't count! I do add 4 oz of grated marble cheese as well. I sometimes sub poppy seeds instead of sesame seeds. - always a hit.

My family loved these and wants them again. My son suggested frying an egg and adding chopped egg to the rolls, so I will try that next time.

I looked at the recipe in the magazine and then looked at the recipe online. The ingredients are the same except for the number of pastry sheets. The magazine says 2 and serves 24, the website says 3 sheets and serves 36. Yet the other ingredients are the same. How can that be? I can understand why one reviewer said she doubled the ingredients. You should pay more attention to the magazine and the website and serving sizes when ingredients are the same except for the number of pastry sheets. I will use the magazine and use 2 sheets of puff pastry, not 3. My review may change after I make these.

As written, this pretty good. I did only use 2 sheets of puff pastry and felt that there wasn't near enough filling. The flavor was good but the ratio of filling to pastry was off. Next time I would double the filling and still use only two pastry sheets. Tasty and easy, looks nice on the buffet table! Dec 2022

These were really good. I originally bought Phillips dough to make similar, but didn’t have enough time to thaw so used the puff pasty. It was delicious and the sesame seeds on top a wonderful addition. Will make these again!
