Second Baby Food: Carrots and Broccoli Recipe
This creamy puree is a perfect healthy snack for little ones, packed with nutrients from fresh vegetables. Here's how you can prepare it in a few easy steps.
Ingredients
- 2 cups chopped carrots
- 2 cups broccoli florets
- cup breast milk
- cup water
Directions
Step 1: Place a steamer insert into a saucepan, then add water just below the bottom of the steamer. Bring the water to a boil.
Step 2: Add the chopped carrots and broccoli florets to the steamer. Cover the pan and steam the vegetables for about 20 minutes, or until they are tender.
Step 3: Transfer the steamed carrots and broccoli to a blender or food processor. Add breast milk and water to the mixture.
Step 4: Blend everything until smooth and creamy. To ensure a silky texture, strain the puree through a fine-mesh sieve to remove any lumps.
Step 5: Spread the blended mixture into an ice cube tray. Cover the tray with plastic wrap and freeze the puree for 2 to 3 hours, or until the cubes are completely solid.
Step 6: Once frozen, transfer the cubes to a zip-top freezer bag and store in the freezer for later use.
Tips
- You can substitute formula or water for the breast milk if preferred.
- To serve, simply microwave the cubes for about 30 seconds until warm (not hot). Stir thoroughly before serving.
