Fantastic Funnel Cakes Recipe

Funnel Cake Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup shortening (such as Crisco), or more as needed
  • 2 cups milk
  • 3 eggs
  • cup white sugar
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • teaspoon salt
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour

Directions:

  1. In a deep skillet, add enough shortening to fill about 1 inches of the pan. Heat the shortening to 400F (200C).
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the milk, eggs, sugar, baking powder, and salt. Stir until well mixed.
  3. Gradually add the flour to the mixture, stirring continuously until the batter becomes smooth.
  4. Transfer the batter into a squeeze bottle or funnel for easy pouring.
  5. Once the oil is hot, quickly squeeze or funnel the batter into the center of the skillet, forming a spiral shape as you move outward.
  6. Fry the funnel cake for 1 to 2 minutes on each side, or until lightly browned and crispy.
  7. Using a slotted spoon, remove the funnel cake from the hot oil and place it on a plate lined with paper towels to drain excess oil.

Cook's Note: For the best flavor, Crisco shortening works wonderfully, but feel free to experiment with other oils and let us know your results.
