Funnel Cake Recipe
Ingredients:
- 1 cup shortening (such as Crisco), or more as needed
- 2 cups milk
- 3 eggs
- cup white sugar
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- teaspoon salt
- 3 cups all-purpose flour
Directions:
- In a deep skillet, add enough shortening to fill about 1 inches of the pan. Heat the shortening to 400F (200C).
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the milk, eggs, sugar, baking powder, and salt. Stir until well mixed.
- Gradually add the flour to the mixture, stirring continuously until the batter becomes smooth.
- Transfer the batter into a squeeze bottle or funnel for easy pouring.
- Once the oil is hot, quickly squeeze or funnel the batter into the center of the skillet, forming a spiral shape as you move outward.
- Fry the funnel cake for 1 to 2 minutes on each side, or until lightly browned and crispy.
- Using a slotted spoon, remove the funnel cake from the hot oil and place it on a plate lined with paper towels to drain excess oil.
Cook's Note: For the best flavor, Crisco shortening works wonderfully, but feel free to experiment with other oils and let us know your results.
Editors Note: The nutritional information provided is based on an oil retention value of 10% after frying, though this may vary depending on oil type, cooking time, and temperature.
