Quick and Easy Alfredo Sauce Recipe

Cook Time: 5 minutes

Ingredients

  • cup butter
  • 1 (8 ounce) package cream cheese
  • 2 teaspoons garlic powder
  • 2 cups milk
  • 6 ounces grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 teaspoon ground black pepper

Directions

Step 1: Gather all the ingredients and set them aside.

Step 2: Melt butter in a medium-sized nonstick saucepan over medium heat.

Step 3: Add the cream cheese and garlic powder to the saucepan, and stir with a wire whisk until the mixture becomes smooth.

Step 4: Gradually add the milk, little by little, whisking continuously to ensure the mixture is free of lumps.

Step 5: Stir in the grated Parmesan cheese and ground black pepper.

Step 6: Remove the saucepan from heat once the sauce reaches the desired consistency. Note that the sauce will thicken quickly.

Step 7: If the sauce becomes too thick, thin it out by adding a bit more milk and stirring until smooth.

Step 8: Toss the sauce with hot pasta and serve immediately for a creamy, flavorful dish.

I substituted light cream cheese and skim milk in this recipe, and it turned out wonderfully. Although the recipe suggests that it serves 4, I found that it easily served double that amount. With these substitutions, the calories per serving decreased by 85 and the fat by 11.8 grams. Additionally, the cholesterol content dropped by 39 mg. Making these changes was definitely worth it, as the dish remained delicious.

This dish was amazing! I swapped in fresh ingredients like 3 cloves of garlic, grated hard Parmesan, and heavy cream instead of half of the milk. I also tossed in halved cherry tomatoes and fresh basil to enhance the flavors. I chose to pair it with grilled chicken breast this time, but I bet grilled shrimp would be even more delicious.

I found this recipe to be a good starting point, but I made several adjustments to better suit my preferences. For my shrimp alfredo, I seasoned the shrimp before cooking and prepared the sauce in the same pan, adding minced garlic and culantro to the butter. I used Philadelphia cream cheese, reduced the milk to 1 1/2 cups (will use all next time), and used 3/4 of the butter. Cooking the sauce on low heat after adding the milk thickened it perfectly. I finished the dish with grated Parmesan cheese, black pepper, garlic powder, and parsley. Alfredo can be as simple or complex as you like, and this recipe is a great quick and easy version. I usually find restaurant alfredo lacking in flavor, so this recipe served as a fantastic base for me to customize to my liking. Most recipes can be improved with some personal touches, and this one did the trick for me.

This recipe is incredibly simple to whip up using ingredients you probably already have at home. I swapped out regular milk for oat milk, and the result was fantastic. I suggest opting for Parmesan and Romano cheese and grating them instead of shredding, as it melts and blends more smoothly.

I made some modifications to the recipe. I opted for 10 cloves of fresh garlic and incorporated fresh parsley, grated cheese, and freshly grated Parmesan cheese.

This recipe is incredibly easy to follow and I usually have all the ingredients on hand, so I can make it quickly whenever I want! The only change I make is using half and half instead of milk. I find that it gives it a creamier texture, in my opinion.

We enjoyed the texture and thickness of the sauce, although we felt it was a bit lacking in flavor. It leaned more towards a cream cheese sauce and could benefit from a stronger parmesan presence.
