Chicken Bone Broth Recipe
This recipe makes a delicious, rich chicken broth thats perfect for soups, stews, or as a flavorful base for other dishes. Heres how to prepare it step by step:
Ingredients
- 1 leftover chicken carcass, broken into pieces
- 1 onion, roughly chopped
- 6 cups water, or as needed to cover
- 2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar
- 1 tablespoon salt
- tablespoon ground black pepper
- Aluminum foil
Directions
Step 1: Preheat the oven to 450F (230C). Line a baking sheet with aluminum foil.
Step 2: Place the chicken bones on the prepared baking sheet. Roast them in the preheated oven for 30 minutes, or until they are golden and slightly crispy.
Step 3: Transfer the roasted chicken bones to a large, heavy stockpot. Add the chopped onion and enough water to cover the bones by about 2 inches.
Step 4: Stir in the apple cider vinegar, salt, and black pepper. Bring the mixture to a boil over high heat.
Step 5: Once boiling, reduce the heat to medium-low. Let the broth simmer, partially covered, with enough space left for steam to escape. Simmer for 4 to 5 hours, occasionally skimming off any froth or foam that forms on top with a large spoon.
Step 6: After 4-5 hours, remove the pot from heat and allow it to cool slightly. Strain the broth through a fine-mesh sieve into a clean pot.
Step 7: Let the broth cool completely at room temperature, then store it in the refrigerator. Use within 5 days, or freeze for future use.
