Pizza Casserole Recipe
Ingredients
This recipe yields 7 servings.
- 2 cups uncooked egg noodles
- pound lean ground beef
- 1 onion, chopped
- 1 green bell pepper, chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 16 ounces pizza sauce
- 1 cup sliced pepperoni sausage
- cup milk
- 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
Directions
Step 1: Fill a large pot with lightly salted water and bring it to a boil. Once boiling, cook the egg noodles for 7 to 9 minutes, until tender but firm to the bite. Drain and set aside.
Step 2: Preheat your oven to 350F (175C).
Step 3: Heat a medium skillet over medium-high heat. Add the ground beef, chopped onion, green bell pepper, and minced garlic. Cook and stir the mixture until the beef is browned and crumbly, about 5 to 7 minutes. Drain any excess fat from the skillet.
Step 4: Stir in the cooked egg noodles, pizza sauce, sliced pepperoni, and milk. Mix everything together until well combined.
Step 5: Pour the mixture into a 2-quart casserole dish.
Step 6: Bake in the preheated oven for 20 minutes. After 20 minutes, sprinkle the shredded mozzarella cheese over the top and continue baking until the cheese is melted and bubbly, about 5 to 10 minutes more.

I love this recipe! My husband loved it and ALL 6 of my kids loved it too! I think it's the first time everyone in the family actually all really liked a casserole I made! It was fun to make too. I didn't change anything about the recipe other than I used pre-sliced pepperoni and cut them into quarters. I will definately be making this recipe again and adding it to my family favorites. Next time, though, I think I will add a layer of mozzarella cheese in the middle and on the top since our family really loves cheese. Thanks so much for a GREAT new recipe!

To be fair, I usually make recipes twice before I rate them as I seriously dislike reviewers who change, then rate the recipe vs making it as written first. Good as written so I am rating this 4 stars for ease, time and ingredients usually on hand. But for my family's preference I made the following modifications. Used spiral noodles in place of egg noodles as they capture more sauce. 1/2 ground beef and 1/2 hot italian sausage which gave the casserole more complexity. Used small pre-sliced pepperoni to save time. Most importantly, this is a great casserole for making ahead ~ as with many pasta dishes, the flavor gets better the longer it sits. Overall this is a great base recipe to build on. Thank you Melissa for sharing!

Very good recipe! It came together quickly and easily but tasted like I spent hours on it. I added mushrooms and doubled the cheese (1 cup mozza, 1 cup cheddar) and baked it in a 9x13. I added the cheese before baking instead of pulling it out of the oven to add it. I put half of the mixture in a glass Pyrex, added half the cheese, added remaining mixture, and topped with the rest of the cheese...ensures even coverage of cheesy goodness. Thanks for the great recipe!

After reading some comments about the lack of flavor, I cooked a flank steak marinated in red wine, cut it up and and then added it in when cooking the veggies. Recommend adding the pepperoni during the onion/garlic/peppers step. For the sauce I used marinara. Also added 4-5 baby carrots for sweetness, fresh basil and oregano, and 1 portabella mushroom. Added a layer of parmesan and a handful of mozzarella after it was done baking. We loved it -- SCARFED it all down.

I love pizza so any variation on that is something I'm willing to try. I used spiral pasta to hold more sauce per bite. I used 1/4lb hot Italian sausage and 1/4lb lean ground beef. I did not use onion or green pepper. I used 1 small can portabella pieces that I added before I baked. I put a layer of mozzerella in the middle before I baked and the required mozzerella on top for the last 10 minutes. For sauce I used Hunt's basil, garlic, oregano tomato sauce. I also left out the garlic as there was garlic in my sauce. This dish was a hit at Thanksgiving

Loved this, so easy. Made with a few modifications, used 1 lb. of mild Italian sausage instead of ground beef. Also instead of mixing the pepperoni in with the rest of the ingredients, l made a laver of them over the mixture placed into a casserole dish, covered that with a thin layer of pizza sauce (I used 2 jars), and covered with 1 package of cheese and baked for 20 minutes. I then added a second bag of mozzarella and heated in the oven till melted. Next time I’ll add some fresh mushrooms.

I made this for a gathering and doubled the recipe! Turned out great! Just added some black olives and some Italian seasoning. Also added 1/2 lb. Italian sausage to the 1 lb. of ground beef. Because it was doubled, I also sauted the Onions, Green Pepper and Garlic separately and added to meat after draining it.

Wow, just plain easy, simple & delicious. I did swap out the egg noodles for corkscrew pasta which I thought was a smart reviewer's tip. I also cooked up the diced onions & peppers in just a splash of olive oil before adding the ground beef & garlic just to make sure that they are cooked through. I did quarter the pepperoni slices & doubled the cheese on top.

Great basic recipe. I added Italian seasoning, left out the milk, used diced tomatoes in place of bell pepper, and layered the ingredients using cheese between the layers. My family loved it. Thanks to all the other’s reviews I had great ideas on how to modify.

Who doesn’t like pizza? Loved this easy to make casserole. I followed the receipt and added mushrooms, black olives and chopped prosciutto. The only thing I would recommend is to bake it in the same fry pan you assemble it in. Not only saves dishes but the shallow fry pan allows more of the ingredients to be covered with cheese. Delicious.

We loved this casserole. I made a couple of adjustments. I removed the bell peppers. Not a fan of them. Used 1/4 lb ground beef and added 1/4 lb Jimmy Dean pork sausage. Added 1/2 cup olives. Doubled the amount of garlic. Used 3 cups of egg noodles instead of 2 cups. Turned out fantastic! This is a keeper!

Added cheddar cheese, more sauce, italian shredded cheese instead of mozzarella and italian seasoning for flavor.

Used a pound of beef and added 4 cloves and mushrooms. Used pepperoni sticks and cut them up into small bites as that's what I had on hand. And no green pepper only because my wife doesn't like them. Came out great.

I made this for dinner but had to make a few substitutions. I subbed macaroni for egg noodles (didn’t have any), heavy cream for milk (it was all I had and I wanted to use it up). I also read the recipe wrong and used 1/4 lb ground beef instead of 1/2 lb. I also added Italian seasoning, onion powder, and garlic powder. I thought this came out really good. My fiancé thought it was okay (but he is getting seconds as I type this). I’ll make it again but I don’t think it will be in regular rotation.

This was easy and really good. The only thing I did was add a can of mushrooms. So yummy!
