Pizza Sliders Recipe

Cook Time: 20 minutes

Ingredients:

  • Cooking spray
  • 1 cups finely pre-shredded part-skim mozzarella cheese
  • 1 cup finely pre-shredded Italian cheese blend
  • cup finely chopped fresh basil
  • teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 teaspoons dried Italian seasoning, divided
  • 1 cups pizza sauce
  • 2 tablespoons sun-dried tomato pesto
  • 1 (12 count) package Hawaiian sweet rolls
  • cup thinly sliced pepperoni
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1 tablespoon grated Parmesan cheese
  • teaspoon garlic powder

Directions:

Step 1: Preheat the oven to 375F (190C). Line a rimmed baking sheet with parchment paper and set a cooling rack on top. Lightly spray the cooling rack with cooking spray.

Step 2: In a small bowl, combine the mozzarella, Italian cheese blend, fresh basil, black pepper, and 1 teaspoons of the Italian seasoning. Stir until well mixed and set aside.

Step 3: In another small bowl, mix the pizza sauce and sun-dried tomato pesto together. Set this mixture aside as well.

Step 4: Without separating the rolls, use a serrated knife to cut the entire slab of rolls in half horizontally. Place the bottom half on the prepared baking sheet, and set the top half aside.

Step 5: Evenly sprinkle half of the cheese mixture over the bottom layer of rolls. Add half of the pepperoni slices and half of the pizza sauce mixture on top. Repeat this layering process with the remaining ingredients.

Step 6: Bake in the preheated oven for about 15 minutes, or until the cheese has fully melted.

Step 7: While the rolls are baking, melt the butter in a small saucepan over medium heat. Add the Parmesan cheese, garlic powder, and the remaining teaspoon of Italian seasoning. Stir occasionally until the butter has melted, about 1-2 minutes. Set aside.

Step 8: Once the rolls are done baking, remove them from the oven and place the top layer of rolls on top. Brush the top layer with the melted butter mixture.

Step 9: Return the rolls to the oven and bake for an additional 5 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and crispy.

Step 10: Remove the rolls from the oven, separate them, and serve immediately. Enjoy!

Variations to Try:

  • Sausage: Substitute cup cooked, crumbled Italian sausage for the pepperoni.
  • Meat Lover's: Reduce pepperoni to cup, and add 3 oz of thin deli ham slices and cup of cooked, crumbled Italian sausage.
  • Veggie: Replace pepperoni with 1 cup of mixed sauted peppers, onions, and mushrooms.
  • BBQ Chicken: Substitute pizza sauce and sun-dried tomato pesto with 1 cup of barbecue sauce. Replace pepperoni with 1 cup of chopped or shredded rotisserie chicken.

I mean, what's not to love here?! The perfect combo of pizza and buttery garlic bread 😋 Made as written and no changes necessary in my book!! Whole family loved these-yum! Thanks for sharing 😊

Very good but next time I will just sprinkle grated Parmesan after I brush with melted butter. Went clumby when melted with butter. Went over well for Sunday supper. Used 1.5 dozen buns but one grandson was missing. Had 3 left for lunch next day. 2nd time used 2 dozen buns for 7 people and no leftovers

This recipe was a hit with the family, we made them for the Super Bowl Sunday. Only tweak was I sprinkled shredded Parmesan cheese across the top after removing from the oven.

Really good! I did this right on the parchment paper and skipped the cooling rack. I want to point out that the ingredient list calls for a 12pk of Hawaiian buns but the picture shown is a 24pk. Because I wanted to have slightly larger sandwiches, I purchased Kings Hawaiian sliders - 9pk. They are still sweet but just not as tiny - plus! They are pre-sliced! But this also meant I had to slightly adjust the cheese/sauce to 3/4 the recipe. Personally- if you don’t have the sun dried tomato pesto - don’t go make a special trip for it. I did and other than slightly thickening the sauce, it was nearly unnoticeable amongst all the pepperoni and cheese. I did notice mine were browsing quicker. Perhaps due to my oven or perhaps due to the version of Hawaiian buns I selected. Either way, I suggest you check at the 10 min mark and decide whether to continue cooking for 5 more min or proceed with steps 7/8. My total bake time was closer to 17 min and as you can see, were crusty (but good!). These are a little messy to eat but fun and tasty. Thanks Laura!

Everyone loved them, I used leftover spaghetti sauce cooked down to be thicker, instead of the sauce made here, because it already had the sausage and seasonings. Used plain dinner rolls instead of the Hawaiian. But would use the Hawaiian at some point. I made 24 (two packs of rolls) and they were history that night. Had to make more the next day because they wanted them for lunch too, so make extra!

Made these for a game day party and they were fairly well received. I didn't use nearly all the sauce and they were still plenty saucy. I had to bake about five minutes longer than stated. Nice change of pace from the typical sliders. Thanks for sharing this recipe!

These were so delicious! My family loved them! The addition of the sun-dried tomato pesto to the pizza sauce gave such a great flavor! My husband and daughter had them exactly as written and were very happy. I made mine with gluten free rolls and artichoke hearts instead of pepperoni, they were fantastic! We'll be making these often!
