Cook Time: 4 minutes
This delicious tuna melt recipe features a savory blend of tuna, mayonnaise, and Dijon mustard, topped with creamy Irish Cheddar cheese and a satisfying crunch of potato chips. Perfectly toasted on rustic whole-grain bread, this dish is an irresistible comfort food.
Ingredients
- 1 (5 ounce) can olive-oil packed tuna, undrained
- cup mayonnaise
- 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
- 1 dill pickle, chopped
- 2 tablespoons minced red onion
- 4 slices rustic whole-grain bread
- 4 slices Irish Cheddar cheese
- 2 tablespoons whipped cream cheese, divided
- 1 cup coarsely crushed potato chips (such as Utz)
- 2 tablespoons mayonnaise, divided
Directions
- In a small bowl, mix together the tuna, cup mayonnaise, and Dijon mustard until well combined.
- Stir in the chopped dill pickle and minced red onion, ensuring everything is evenly mixed.
- Spread the tuna mixture onto two slices of bread, covering them evenly.
- Place two slices of Irish Cheddar cheese on top of the tuna mixture on each slice of bread.
- On the remaining two slices of bread, spread 1 tablespoon of whipped cream cheese on each slice.
- Place these cream cheese-covered slices of bread on top of the Cheddar cheese to form two sandwiches.
- In a shallow bowl, place the crushed potato chips. Spread 1 teaspoons of mayonnaise on the top side of each sandwich.
- Press the mayonnaise side of the sandwich into the crushed chips, ensuring they stick well. Repeat this on the other side of each sandwich.
- Heat a dry grill pan over medium-high heat. Carefully place the tuna melts onto the pan and toast for about 2 minutes on each side, or until golden brown and crispy.
- Once toasted, remove from the pan and serve immediately, enjoying the delicious combination of creamy tuna, melted cheese, and crispy potato chips!
Cook's Note
If preferred, you can use a panini press instead of a grill pan to toast the tuna melts, giving them an extra-crispy finish.
