Ground Beef Skillet Recipe

This simple and delicious ground beef skillet dish is perfect for a quick dinner. Rich, creamy, and satisfying, it's made with basic ingredients that come together in a savory sauce. Lets dive into the preparation!

Ingredients (Serves 4)

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 2 cubes chicken bouillon, crumbled
  • teaspoon garlic powder
  • teaspoon ground black pepper
  • teaspoon onion powder
  • cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cups low-fat milk

Directions

Step 1: Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the ground beef, crumbled chicken bouillon, garlic powder, black pepper, and onion powder. Cook and stir for about 7 minutes, or until the beef is crumbly, evenly browned, and no longer pink.

Step 2: Stir in the flour and cook for 3 minutes, stirring constantly to avoid lumps.

Step 3: Slowly pour in the milk while stirring. Bring the mixture to a simmer and cook, stirring constantly, until it thickens, about 5 minutes. Reduce the heat to medium-low and let it simmer for an additional 5 minutes to ensure the flavors meld together.

I made it just like the recipe and it was SO good! My husband loved it and that says a lot because I call him the Food Diva. My brother-in-law enjoyed it too. Everyone was stuffed and I would definitely make it again! The pepper gives it a nice kick too.

Turned out fabulous as written. This has been a family staple since childhood, but I made it a little different, harder. We would brown the meat and then make gravy separate and then blend the meat into the gravy. This was so much faster and so much simpler and with fewer dishes to wash, which is a major plus. I always add onions, as I’m browning the meat. It also tastes fabulous and with fewer fat calories using ground turkey. I always make rice with it and mix it in with my SOS on my plate and spread the concoction over a couple slices of bread. I swirl ketchup on top

I followed the recipe to the letter. It got a little thicker that I thought it would so I added 1/2 cup more milk and it was more to our liking. I served it over butter flavored biscuits. I will make it again and maybe use less flour or use 2 cups of milk instead of 1½ cups like the recipe calls for. It's a keeper. My wife and I both liked it. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought the original SOS was made with chipped beef.

I have made this recipe so many times. I've done it exactly how it's written, And I've also tweeked it a bit. I cook some bell pepper and onion with garlic first, set that aside.. and then cook this yummy stuff.. and add the veggies AFTER the meat has cooked. my daughter always asks for this!!

Love this! Grew up with mom making this. I now use ground turkey (agreed not as good but a tad healthier) but add beefy French onion soup mix - 1/2 a pack. Also use beef bullion instead of chicken just to give it more of the beef flavor. Just got to be careful on adding salt though due to soup mix.

I cooked my ground beef with diced fresh onion instead of onion salt and minced garlic instead of garlic powder. I also used toasted sourdough bread instead of regular white bread. I will definitely be cooking this again!

My husband and I loved it! The one thing I did differently is added the milk first and then added a tablespoon of flour at a time until it reached the desired consistency. I think it needed a small amount of salt also.

I made this, and it was delicious! I used Texas Toast, and browned the toast with butter in a skillet. I added extra water to make it a little more runny. I like to pour it over the toast, and run onto the plate.

This is a pretty good recipe, but I added fresh garlic instead of powdered and a sliced up onion to the mix. Also used a can of beef broth instead of chicken bouillon cubes. Was amazing!

Ok, I'm one of those who subs ingredients but I used instead of chicken bullion some dashida... Korean beef bullion powder and it was good! It required a lot of stirring, but I think it was worth it. It needed more milk and might need some salt but I'll let my bf salt it himself. I didn't want to waste the remaining hamburger buns so I'll toast them lightly buttered. Thanks for sharing this hearty rib sticking economical dinner recipe! I'm sure I'll make it again!

I woke up really hungry and craving a burger and I saw something about SOS so I did a search and found this recipe. In the past I've used dried beef, which I like a lot but never have it on hand. I knew I had some GB in the fridge, made it and it really satisfied that craving. The added seasoning definitely makes this recipe an excellent dish.

While I was on active duty my Mess Sgt. Archuleta would make this on occasion. This brought back memories of being out all night at Fort McCoy and Fort Carson and then sitting down to a plate full of SOS one of the few pleasures of the Army 1967 -1973 . This is the real McCoy .

I loved this recipe! My dad was in the army and did 2 tours of Vietnam. The only meal he cooked ( that Mom let him cook) was breakfast on the weekends. This was a much looked forward to staple. Daddy always added finely diced onion and green pepper with the ground beef . And served over toast shingles with eggs on the side. Thank you for the memories!!!!

Just like mama made it. The only thing I add as a personal touch is smoked paprika just for a little smokey kick, however, this is perfect by itself. Thank you sharing it with the world! 😀

The entire family loved it. I had to guess at the bouillon cubes because I had powder. I needed to cut it down to 1tbs
