Kid's Favorite Pizza Casserole Recipe
Ingredients
- 2 cups elbow macaroni
- 1 pound ground beef
- 1 (14 ounce) jar pizza sauce
- 1 (4 ounce) can tomato sauce
- 1 (4.5 ounce) can sliced mushrooms, drained
- 1 pound shredded mozzarella cheese
Directions
- Preheat your oven to 350F (175C).
- Bring a large pot of lightly salted water to a boil. Cook the elbow macaroni in the boiling water, stirring occasionally, until it is cooked through but still firm to the bite, about 8 minutes. Drain well.
- In a skillet, cook and stir the ground beef over medium heat until it becomes crumbly and browned, around 10 minutes. Drain off any excess grease.
- In a large bowl, combine the cooked ground beef, macaroni, pizza sauce, tomato sauce, and sliced mushrooms. Stir to mix everything evenly.
- Layer half of the macaroni mixture into a 9x12-inch baking dish. Top it with half of the shredded mozzarella cheese.
- Spread the remaining macaroni mixture over the cheese layer and sprinkle the rest of the mozzarella cheese on top.
- Cover the dish with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for about 35 minutes, or until the cheese has melted and the casserole is bubbling.
- Remove the dish from the oven and let it cool for 3 to 5 minutes before serving.

I know some people don't want a reviewer to give a rating based on changes made in the original recipe. I really enjoy reading all the ways people make a certain recipe their own and I feel if a reviewer wants to give the original recipe 5 stars then that's just fine. So...I really wanted to make this but didn't have the exact ingredients. I am putting my changes in this review so people can see there is a lot of latitude in making this and it still turns out great. First I cut the recipe in half as I made it mostly for my 8 y/o. Only had about a half pound of ground beef which I browned with a few additional spices. I used rigatoni noodles. I didn't have a small can of tomato sauce so added some tomato paste to the browning meat. I left out the mushrooms. The rest of the recipe I followed but I kept a bit of the pasta water before draining to add back to the pasta before adding the sauce. It helps the sauce incorporate with the pasta (according to Rachael Ray :) ). My son's verdict was that it tasted just like real pizza. I am sure I will try this again with different pizza topping ingredients. The title really says it all...KID'S favorite pizza casserole. Thanks for the inspiration!

Altered this recipe a bit: Used 1 lb beef, 2 c of elbow noodles, 4oz jar of pizza sauce, 8oz can of tomato sauce, turkey pepperoni, shredded mozzarella cheese, 1 tsp garlic salt, and 1 tsp of Italian seasoning. When I browned the beef, I sprinkled in some dried onion. Used the layer method described, but put the pepperoni in between the layers. Turned out awesome! I will definitely need to double the recipe as it was gobbled up in no time!

I made this, with some changes and my kids and hubby loved it! First of all, instead of ground beef, I used ground turkey breast. I always cook my meat with water in it and lots of spices (Garlic Mrs. Dash), so I just added the macaroni noodles and cooked both at the same time. We like supreme pizza with loads of veggies, so I sauteed a large red onion, one large green pepper, a couple of stalks of celery and two cartons of mushrooms, and several cloves of garlic in some EVOO. Before I put any of the veggies in the pan, I added fennel and the garlic to the oil, just to flavor it. When all was done, I combined, placed in glass casserole dish and baked as directed. Served up with a nice salad and garlic knots! My 8 year old son said it was amazing and actually wanted to take some for lunch. My 16 year old daughter said it was "BOMB!" Easy on the wallet, easy prepping, and absolutely delish!

My mom had an old recipe that she clipped from a local newspaper, the dish was called “Noodle Pizza”, and it was a family favorite. She would make a couple of extra trays of this and freeze them (prior to baking) for our family of 6 for fast and easy weeknight meals. This recipe is almost identical, except she would add salt, pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, and italian spices to the ground beef, and only sliced mozzarella to the top and no shredded cheese in the middle except a few sprinkles of grated parmesan. This recipe is a keeper!

My granddaughter gave this recipe "4 thumbs up" - her highest rating. I used Italian sausage instead of ground beef, added about 1/4# sliced pepperoni, quartered, and about 1/2 cup sliced black olives. I also sauteed fresh mushrooms when browning the sausage, instead of using canned mushrooms. Her only suggestion was to use less cheese next time and maybe a few more black olives. I'm sure I'll be making this again.

Less expensive and faster than ordering a pizza. I used only one bag of Pizza Blend Cheese (2 cups, shredded.) I also added a teaspoon or two of Pizza Seasoning to the ground beef. If you're looking for a kid-pleasing dish, try this quick, easy and cheesy casserole.

This turned out great! My kids love it, I did add garlic powder, onion powder, salt, pepper and italian seasoning. I also subbed ground beef for ground turkey and seasoned that as well. I used fresh white mushrooms and sauteed them with more seasoning. Turned out amazing!

I doubled the gluten free macaroni and put it in a larger dish. I added a onion instead of mushrooms. I added garlic and garnished it with parsley to give it a little color. I think I’ll try more pizza sauce and less tomato sauce. Also, I think I will add some pizza seasoning so it taste more like pizza. My family really loved it! My hubby had 3 servings!!

I added turkey pepperoni, an undrained can of diced tomatoes green peppers, and onions. I only had 8oz of pizza sauce but it came out good since I used the can of diced tomatoes. I should have cut up all the mushrooms into little pieces. My 7 yr old ate them up until there was a big one and she realized she was eating mushrooms.

Delicious, easy meal! I took other recommendations and added pepperoni and left out the mushrooms. I also mixed the meat and sauces before I added the macaroni. My husband is the picky one and he liked it as much as my one year old!

This wasn't bad, it just wasn't as good and flavorful as I expected it to be. Maybe it is just me, but I thought it could use some more flavors.

I really enjoyed it. Does tomato sauce come in a 4oz can? I found an 8oz can. The recipe could use 8oz. I would also add some oregano next time. Definitely a keeper.

My husband and I are both on our 50's and we LOVED this!! So delicio and so very easy to make! We used fresh mushrooms instead of canned and sprinkled basil and oregano on the top, but other than that we followed the recipe as it was written - enjoy! 😊😊

I didn't have mushroom on hand so I substituted with 1/3 of a can of cream of mushroom soup. I also didn't have tomato soup so I used some salsa. Still turned out really yummy!

It's good but I think it would have been better if the cheese was mixed in with the top layer

This was great as written. Last night 3 adults ate and liked it. I was testing the waters to see if I thought my 4 grandchildren (ages2-8) would eat it. I plan to put it out today beside our Easter lunch- pretty sure the two younger ones will go for it! Easy to make!

Easy, quick, gluten free version with Aldis GF pasta. Pasta holds up well and isn't mushy!
