Pan Fried Green Beans Recipe
Simple Sauted Green Beans
Ingredients
- 1 pounds fresh green beans, trimmed and snapped
- teaspoon garlic powder, or to taste
- teaspoon onion powder, or to taste
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 3 tablespoons olive oil
Directions
Step 1: Gather all your ingredients. It's always best to have everything ready before you start cooking.
Step 2: In a stainless steel pot, combine the green beans, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper over medium-high heat. Stir them together to coat the beans evenly with the spices.
Step 3: Cover the pot and cook until the beans begin to sweat, releasing some moisture. This should take just a few minutes.
Step 4: Once the beans are sweating, remove the lid and stir occasionally. Continue cooking until the beans are tender and lightly charred on the bottom.
Step 5: When the beans and spices start to char, stir in the olive oil and turn off the heat. Cover the pot and let it rest for a few minutes to allow the flavors to meld together.
Step 6: After resting, scrape the bottom of the pot to incorporate the charred spices into the beans. The beans should have a dark, caramelized color, but they shouldn't be black.

After reading the other posts, I was NOT going to sacrifice my pans for a 'decent' dish. SO, I sprayed it with cooking spray, then let everything get nice and toasty. It worked fine and I didn't lose my favorite saute pan. The next time I made it, I revamped the entire recipe by adding fresh garlic and onion and a small squirt of lemon juice to 'carmelize everything instead of blacken everything. That just tasted better for us. Thanks for the jumpstart!

Love making fried beans! I cut my beans into 2 to 3 pieces then boil them first for about 15 minutes. I then transfer them to a pan with olive oil and fry along with some fresh garlic and onions with salt and pepper to taste. Delicious!

I was looking for a different way to have green beans and these were delicious! I followed other reviewers suggestions and sprayed the ceramic lined non-stick pan lightly with PAM. These cooked up quickly. When I added in the olive oil, I didn't measure anything, I added approximately 1 1/2- 2 teaspoons of lemon olive oil. This gave a subtle lemon flavor. Liking that flavor, I decided to add fresh lemon zest from half of a small lemon along with the juice at the very end. The juice was quickly absorbed by the hot green beans. The flavor was delicious! The entire pan was quickly gobbled up and we were left looking for more. Great post! Will definitely be making these again. Thank you so much for a different take on green beans.

I made these last night and they were great. I first read the reviews and the changes others had made. I had fresh garlic, onions, and red bell pepper so I used those rather then powder. I did use the lemon as I grow citrus and had them. I used my small wok to cook them in. I let the mixture char just a bit and they were perfect.

This was an easy side dish and it didn't take very long to fix. I used a nonstick skillet and frozen thin green beans. It worked fine. I used the powders as directed, but then saw the fresh garlic in my pantry, and thought "more garlic = more better", so I smashed a couple of small cloves and in it went. My bag of green beans was only 12 oz. but I went ahead and used the full amount of onion and garlic powder. It worked out fine. The green beans got a nice little char from the pan on them, and this was a good side dish.

I loved this as a base. I did change it up a bit and it was so delicious my husband made me make it again the following night. My changes were I added a small potato, cut up very thin and half a bell pepper and an onion cut thin. Added it all together in the pan. Put in the spices in the recipe, but also added crushed red pepper. Super delish!!! Thank you for sharing!

Absolutely I suggest boiling the beans about 15 prior to frying in the pan. Makes for a better texture bean.

I didn't realize at first what all the fuss was about, until I decided to let the beans sit for longer after adding the oil to really let the flavors mingle. WOW... it was hard to stop eating this! Definitely the best green beans I've ever had.

This is a big hit and I have my whole family eating (and making)green beans. I use minced garlic instead of powdered. These remind me of the green beans at Boston Market!

I have not made it YET, about to though, My sister in law , who DOES NOT COOK made it and it was very good. She followed the recipe to the letter I am sure--doesn't know how to deviate. I am gonna try what the Arizona Desert Flower did though, that sounds like a good idea, but everyone in my family love the barely cooked green beans.

I also added margaritas to the mix. Sometimes minus the alcohol... we call them margarita green beans. Cooked exactly the same way.
