Air Fryer Old Bay® Chicken Wings Recipe

Air Fryer Old Bay® Chicken Wings Recipe

Cook Time: 25 minutes

Ingredients:

  • 2 pounds chicken wings
  • 2 tablespoons seafood seasoning (such as Old Bay)
  • teaspoon freshly cracked black pepper
  • cup cornstarch
  • Sauce:
  • 4 tablespoons butter
  • 1 teaspoon seafood seasoning (such as Old Bay)

Directions:

Step 1: Preheat the air fryer to 400F (200C).

Step 2: In a large bowl, combine chicken wings with 2 tablespoons of seafood seasoning and black pepper. Toss the wings to ensure they are evenly coated.

Step 3: Add the cornstarch to the bowl and toss the wings again until they are fully coated in the cornstarch mixture.

Step 4: Shake off any excess cornstarch from the wings and arrange them in the air fryer basket. Be sure the wings are not touching each other. If necessary, cook the wings in batches.

Step 5: Cook the wings in the preheated air fryer for 10 minutes. After 10 minutes, shake the basket to ensure even cooking, and continue frying for an additional 8 minutes.

Step 6: Flip the wings over and cook for another 5 to 6 minutes, or until the chicken is fully cooked through and the juices run clear.

Step 7: While the wings are cooking, prepare the sauce. In a small saucepan, combine the butter and 1 teaspoon of seafood seasoning. Place the saucepan over medium heat and bring the mixture to a boil, stirring constantly.

Step 8: Once the sauce has reached a boil, remove it from the heat. Dip each cooked wing into the sauce, ensuring it is well coated. Serve the remaining sauce on the side for dipping.

I have been experimenting with different air fryer chicken wing recipes in search of the perfect one, and I think I've found it! I followed the recipe as instructed, but I decided to enhance the flavor by adding 1-2 tsp of paprika to the sauce. For my next batch, I will skip the sauce (not a big fan of too much butter) and mix the paprika with the other dry ingredients instead.

My air fryer had a maximum temperature of 390 degrees, so I simply cooked the food for an extra minute. The result was amazingly crispy. I had only used my air fryer twice in the past year because I didn't think it produced such great results. However, this recipe has completely changed my mind about air fryers.

I absolutely love making these chicken wings for our Sunday football gatherings - they're a hit with the whole family and so simple to prepare. I'm not a fan of cooking, but I find air frying to be a game-changer, making the process effortless. I just toss the wings in a ziplock bag with seasonings and cornstarch, give it a shake (no need for extra bowls), and use air fryer liners for easy cleanup. I like to double up on the butter and seasonings for the dipping sauce, melting it in the microwave for convenience. I stick to the recipe as instructed, and the wings always turn out delicious!

The wings turned out great in my budget-friendly compact air fryer. I checked their doneness using an instant-read thermometer to ensure they reached 165 degrees F. The cooking method was effective, especially when using cornstarch instead of flour. However, the wings ended up being overly salty. I might experiment with this recipe by replacing the salt with a spice blend like Aldi's Imitation Mrs. Dash or garlic/onion powder. I was surprised by the saltiness in Old Bay seasoning.

The dish was overly salty, half the amount of Old Bay seasoning would have been sufficient. Unsure how to use up the leftovers.

Oh my goodness! Without a doubt, these are the best wings I have ever cooked! I'm 69 years old and have been baking wings for years. But after trying this recipe, I will never go back. They turned out outstanding! Thank you for sharing the recipe.
