Oven-Baked Chicken Recipe
Ingredients
This recipe was developed at its original yield. Ingredient amounts are automatically adjusted for different servings, but cooking times and steps remain the same. Note that not all recipes scale perfectly.
- 1 tablespoon butter or margarine
- 2/3 cup Original Bisquick mix
- 1 1/2 teaspoons paprika
- 1 1/4 teaspoons salt
- 1/4 teaspoon pepper
- 1 whole chicken, cut up (3 to 3 1/2 pounds)
Original recipe yields 5 servings.
Directions
Step 1: Preheat your oven to 425F (220C). Place butter in a 13x9x2-inch rectangular baking dish and allow it to melt in the oven.
Step 2: In a medium bowl, combine Bisquick mix, paprika, salt, and pepper. Toss the chicken pieces in this mixture until evenly coated.
Step 3: Carefully place the chicken in the hot baking dish, skin sides down.
Step 4: Bake for 35 minutes, then turn the chicken pieces over.
Step 5: Continue baking for approximately 15 more minutes, or until the juices run clear and there is no pink in the thickest parts of the chicken.
Recipe Tip
High Altitude (3500 to 6500 ft): Bake the chicken in the preheated oven for 40 minutes. Turn the chicken and bake until the meat is no longer pink at the bone and the juices are clear, about 20 minutes more. An instant-read thermometer should register at least 165F (74C) near the bone.

Great recipe that's easy to modify. I lined the dish with foil first - no mess at all to clean up. I used bonelss chicken breast, omitted the salt and used flour, pepper, Mrs. Dash original and Mrs. Dash tomato/basil/garlic and paprika. Wonderful & tender - better than fried!

My family loved it! I dipped the chicken in a egg & milk mixture prior to dipping in flour mix (I did add a little Dash to flour mixture). I bought a pack of thighs instead of a whole chicken ....the meat stays really moist and fits in pan equally. I lined my pan with tin foil....easy & quick clean up!

I made this tonight for Wednesday Chicken Dinner night. It was delicious and juicy. The only thing that I changed was that I soaked my chicken in buttermilk for eight hours, rinsed and patted it dry before breading it. My husband always loved his grandma's oven fried chicken but I could never duplicate it, until now! I think the key is to put the chicken in the preheated pan with the melted butter. I had chicken legs because that's what was on sale. Eight chicken legs for $1.79 was quite a deal! I'll be doing this again and again, with my husband's encouragement!

I didn't have Bisquick on hand so used pancake mix instead. For added flavor, I added Lawry's seasoned salt to the dry ingredients. Sprayed butter cooking spray on the chicken before coating. The temperature and time given cooked the chicken to perfection. Delicious chicken using a very simple and easy recipe. Will definitely make again.

I used 2 large breasts (about 1.3 lbs total) and put it in a 9x9 pan. I used all the same amounts, but I also added a 1/4 tsp of garlic powder and chopped up 1 tbsp of fresh Italian herbs from my garden. Be careful because it cooks much faster. I did 30 minutes at 400 degrees flipping them after 20 minutes. Next time I'll shave 3 or 4 minutes off. My wife loved it!

I made it and dipped the pieces in a egg wash per a recommendation. I used Pioneer Buttermilk Pancake and Biscuit Mix. I have cornflakes but I didn’t want to change the recipe and wish the was a thumbs down option for comments from the peanut gallery.

this was delicious. my changes were: adding garlic powder to the store brand Bisquick, baking in cast iron, added a little bit of peanut oil to the butter on the bottom and it did not stick it all.

I first made this chicken over 50 years ago. I lined the pan with foil, for easy clean up. I used shortening rather than butter and melted it in the foil lined pan while I prepped the bisquick mixture. I put the bisquick along with seasonings in a large sandwich bag (whatever it was back then) and threw in a piece of chicken and shook it to cover the chicken - my version of "shake-n-bake."

I have tried several baked chicken recipes and this one is the best one by far!! My husband LOVED it. The only thing I did different was I used skinless boneless chicken thighs and cut down the times to 30 mins, then turned them, then another 10 mins. They were perfectly crispy and juicy. Delicious!!

So good! Great cooking directions. The hot temperature gives a nice crust and juicy inside. I used Rosemary "LiveGFree" gluten free crackers and some season salt to make it gluten free. Dipped chicken in egg then cracker which I turned to crumbs in food processor.

This chicken dish was flavorful and the coating was crispy and delicious!!!! I read that one person said he/she had trouble with the Bisquick mixture sticking. I blended all the dry ingredients in a large plastic bag and put two pieces of chicken at a time into the bag and shook the bag until the pieces were well coated. I had no problem using this method with the coating not sticking! Each piece was evenly coated as well!

I've turned everyone on to this recipe!! I make the best fried chicken. Takes me an hour. No more! This recipe makes the chicken so crispy! I had a chicken and waffle fry mix that I used. It was so yummy and sweet! Wonderful recipe!
