Hillshire Farm Sausage Alfredo Recipe
Ingredients
This recipe yields 6 servings.
- 8 ounces pasta, cooked and drained
- 1 (14-ounce) package Hillshire Farm Smoked Sausage, diagonally cut into 1/4-inch slices
- 2 cups heavy cream
- 2 teaspoons Cajun seasoning
- cup grated Parmesan cheese
Directions
- Bring a large pot of lightly salted water to a boil. Add the pasta and cook, stirring occasionally, until tender yet firm to the bite, about 10 minutes, depending on the shape and package directions. Drain and set aside.
- While the pasta is cooking, heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the sausage and saut for about 5 minutes, turning occasionally, until it starts to brown.
- Add the heavy cream and Cajun seasoning to the skillet, stirring well. Bring to a boil, then reduce the heat and let it simmer gently for 3 to 4 minutes, until the mixture begins to thicken.
- Remove the skillet from the heat and stir in the grated Parmesan cheese until the sauce is smooth and creamy.
- Add the cooked pasta to the sauce and toss until well coated. Serve hot.
Recipe Tip
For an added burst of freshness, mix in 1 cup of frozen green peas in the last 3 to 4 minutes of cooking the pasta.

This recipe has been added to our regular rotation. It's the first time I've added Cajun seasoning to a dish and we LOVE it! That, with the sausage, makes for an amazing flavor combination. I do add the peas for color and because they go so well with the dish. I usually do just 1 cup of heavy cream, and then 1 cup of half & half or milk, to cut calories (though I've read that half & half can become lumpy if overheated, I've never had that issue...yet). Do try this easy dinner tonight!**Update 12/14** I just realized that the recipe above does not list peas as an optional ingredient. On the Hilshire Farms website, where I originally discovered this recipe, it mentions adding a cup of frozen peas to the pasta during the last minute of boiling. And, as I said before, it is good with the peas!

I couldn't quite find the recipe I was looking for, but thought this one had promise to use as a base recipe for the ingredients I wanted to use. I added a small amount of oil (less than 1 Tbsp) to the skillet and put in a chopped pepper along with the sausage slices so those could cook together. After those were ready I turned the heat down and added broccoli, put on the lid and let it heat (I used frozen because I didn't have time to use the fresh I had on hand - either one would work.) Instead of just plain pasta, I used 1 1/2 containers of cheese tortellini that I cooked separately. After the broccoli was heated. I added the tortellini to the skillet. I made the sauce as stated and added that to the skillet with all the other ingredients and mixed it well. My family and I really enjoyed it.

Added thinly sliced green pepper. used 1% milk mixed w/flour and 3 tbsp butter instead of heavey cream. Turned out beautiful and delish!

The picky little ones loved it, so it's definitely a keeper. I added in a bit of onion, garlic, and thyme while I was browning the sausage. I used bowtie pasta and added in some broccoli for a bit of color. It was delicious, and now I'm wondering how it'll taste with a bit of bacon added.

We love this! I add in 2 red bell peppers, sauteed in olive oil to soften them up. Then I add some cayenne pepper to give it a little kick.

I modify the sauce... First I cook minced garlic with a little butter on med heat. Then add the cream, cajun seasoning, parsley flakes and cook for about 5 min. And then I mix it all up in a pot with the already cooked pasta and the already browned sausage. 6 out of 6 people in the family LOVE it. I also add shrimp to it if I have it.

I wanted to do something different with this. Used a beef sausage and used whole milk instead of heavy cream. I browned meat, added flour to the grease and let it thicken. I put the milk and Cajun seasoning in and let it cook and combine. I let it cool some then added about a cup of fire roasted tomatoes and a tablespoon of tomato paste (the cooling was to prevent curdling). I added shredded parmesan and it was delicious!

This was fantastic. I did change up a few things. I added fresh onions and peppers to the pan before cooking the sausage. I also put this all to the side before I made the sauce in the pan. In addition to the cream I added half a cup of milk. It was a huge hit with the whole family. This will definitely be added to the request list!

My family loves this! I actually made a little more pasta and added cut fresh asparagus to the pasta when it was boiling. I also added a little more parmesan cheese to thicken the sauce a bit more. Delish! Will definitely be making this again!

This is really tasty! Our family loves it. It is a little spicy for me, so I used a little less cajun seasoning. Depending on which brand cream I use, sometimes I have to thicken the sauce a bit with cornstarch or cream cheese. It is a recipe I go back to again and again. Its easy and delicious!

This is one of my son's GO TO requests when he comes home from college. It takes a little longer than the time given if you want the sausage browned perfectly, but otherwise delicious. Definitely add the peas for color, veggie power, and taste! We love this!

I can’t give 5 stars yet. I want to try it again and NOT do a couple tweaks that I did. I used cheese tortellini, and I added some cream cheese because it wasn’t thickening up. Finally, I used too much Parmesan, which made it salty and a bit sour. It was edible, but not great. I believe this is a good recipe though, and I am the problem. I will try again and modify my review when I do it right.

Have made this numerous times, with and without the peas. Great either way! Leftovers are too greasy for me though.
