Ingredients
This recipe yields 8 generous servings. Ingredients are listed for the original recipe. Quantities may be adjusted automatically, but cooking times and steps should remain the same. Scaling may not always be perfect.
- 1 (16-ounce) package frozen garlic bread
- 2 (24-ounce) jars spaghetti sauce
- 40 Italian-style frozen meatballs
- 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
- cup grated Parmesan cheese
Directions
Step 1: Preheat your oven to 425F (220C). Arrange the garlic bread on a baking sheet with the spread side up. Bake for 10-12 minutes until warm and golden brown. Remove from the oven and set aside to cool slightly.
Step 2: Reduce the oven temperature to 350F (175C).
Step 3: Pour the spaghetti sauce into a large pot and bring it to a boil. Add the frozen meatballs, then lower the heat and simmer for about 20 minutes, until the meatballs are thoroughly heated.
Step 4: Tear the cooled garlic bread into bite-sized pieces and spread them evenly in the bottom of a 9x13-inch baking dish.
Step 5: Pour the hot spaghetti sauce and meatballs over the garlic bread, making sure the bread is well coated and the meatballs are evenly distributed.
Step 6: Sprinkle a layer of mozzarella cheese over the top, followed by the Parmesan cheese.
Step 7: Bake the casserole in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until the cheese is fully melted and bubbly.

The first time I tried this recipe, my garlic bread turned out mushy. However, tonight I assembled the casserole differently by layering the meatballs and sauce at the bottom, topping them with cheese, adding cut-up bread on top, and then another layer of cheese. It turned out perfect!

Quick and simple meal that was a hit with the entire family. After seeing some feedback about the bread getting soggy, I decided to mix in a small can of tomato paste to give the sauce more thickness. I also found that using higher quality, less watery spaghetti sauces made a difference.

I tried using pre-cut slices of Italian bread from the bakery to make some delicious garlic toasts. I toasted one side before turning it into garlic bread, leaving the rest as is. Following the advice to keep the bread toasted and thin really paid off - it improved the leftovers as well! Such a great tip! 😊

Cut the bread halfway through before cooking until crispy (similar to croutons but with a different texture), then add the toppings.

A little too saucy for my liking. The flavor is good, but I would tweak the ratios.

This dish has quickly become a beloved favorite among my family. It's truly one of the best we've ever tried. We make it often because it's requested frequently and so simple to prepare. The whole family absolutely adores it!

This recipe is fantastic! My family absolutely loved it, with the exception of the garlic bread at the bottom. I ended up only spreading a thin layer on the bottom and added the rest on top. Next time, I'll skip putting any on the bottom as it made it too mushy.

I enjoy making my own garlic bread by using leftover hamburger or hot dog buns, brushing them with melted butter and garlic. This is a great way to use up extra buns, and my family and friends prefer this homemade version over regular garlic bread. I typically toast them under the broiler for a delicious finish.

My children are quite selective eaters, but they absolutely adored this dish! It was incredibly simple to prepare, so much so that my 6-year-old was able to assist me in the kitchen.
