Ingredients

Original recipe (1X) yields 24 servings

  • 1 cups white sugar
  • 1 cup butter
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • teaspoon baking soda
  • teaspoon salt
  • teaspoon ground nutmeg

Directions

Step 1: In a large bowl, beat together sugar and butter with an electric mixer until the mixture is light and fluffy.

Step 2: Add the eggs, one at a time, making sure to beat well after each addition. Then, beat in the vanilla extract.

Step 3: In a separate bowl, combine flour, baking soda, salt, and nutmeg. Gradually stir this dry mixture into the creamed butter and sugar mixture.

Step 4: On a floured surface, knead the dough for a few turns until it becomes smooth and well combined.

Step 5: Cover the dough and refrigerate it for about 30 minutes, or until it firms up.

Step 6: Preheat your oven to 325F (165C).

Step 7: Roll out the dough on a lightly floured surface to a thickness of about inch.

Step 8: Use cookie cutters to cut the dough into your desired shapes. Arrange the cookies on a cookie sheet, placing them 1 inches apart from one another.

Step 9: Bake the cookies in the preheated oven for 8 to 10 minutes, or until the edges turn golden brown.

Step 10: Allow the cookies to cool on the cookie sheet for a few minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
