I decided to bake this cake spontaneously during the quarantine period in my area, and I was pleasantly surprised by the result. The cake has a delightful flavor and a moist texture, making it a perfect treat. It is not your typical mug cake, as I baked it in a glass food storage bowl, which worked out perfectly. I appreciate the tips from other reviews that helped me avoid making a mess in my microwave. I experimented with adding coconut flakes and using baking soda instead of baking powder in my second attempt, and it turned out great. I prefer baking this cake in a round glass container, as it creates a lovely presentation. This portion size is ideal for a romantic date night for two or for indulging in a private cake-eating session without the rest of the household knowing.

Here's the rewritten review: I just made my first mug cake and it turned out to be a simple, light, and fluffy chocolate cake. I found that in my microwave it needed about 1 minute and 15 seconds to bake, as going for 1 minute and 30 seconds made it slightly dry. Following another reviewer's suggestion, I reduced the sugar by half, which worked out nicely. Since I only had vanilla soymilk on hand, I used that and also halved the amount of vanilla extract. I'm looking forward to experimenting with different flavors and enhancements. This recipe provides a great starting point, and I plan to adjust the additional ingredients, milk, and oil to achieve a moister, spongier, and more flavorful cake.

Revised review: **EDIT: I may have figured out why it doesn't turn out well for everyone. Dutch process cocoa doesn't work with this recipe! The taste is completely different. I mistakenly used Dutch process cocoa without realizing, and when I tried making it, it didn't turn out well. The result was salty and didn't taste good at all. So, stick to regular unsweetened cocoa powder, avoid Dutch process! Those who claim it's bad or unsuccessful may have either measured incorrectly or are inexperienced with mug cakes. Firstly, never use a small/regular-sized mug for a mug cake! Opt for a large mug like those big coffee shop latte mugs. The one I use can hold about 2-3 cups of liquid. The batter rises, so expect it to at least double. Some people complained about it being too salty. It's not salty; they may have used 1/4 teaspoon instead of 1/8th. Most people won't have a measuring spoon that small, so I recommend using a 1/4 teaspoon and eyeballing half of that. If you don't have that, I suggest using 1-2 large pinches. Also, ensure you are using a teaspoon, not a tablespoon for measurement. You need two spoons for accurate measurement. If you're using self-rising flour, omit both the salt and baking soda. When used with self-rising flour, adding salt can make it too salty. Microwaves vary, so start with 1 minute, check it, and adjust accordingly. I have a less powerful microwave, and it took about 1:30. I prefer to remove it when it's slightly gooey as it's crucial not to overcook it. Mug cakes can become rubbery if overcooked. I adore this recipe. It satisfies my craving for something warm and chocolaty, and I don't need to have sweets on hand that I might binge on.

This recipe exceeded my expectations! I'm not the best at cooking or baking, but I decided to give this a try and it was surprisingly simple! I ended up making a larger batch by doubling the recipe and using a small glass mixing bowl. Once it was done in the microwave, I topped it off with some caramel syrup. I usually find chocolate cakes to be too dry, but this one was incredibly moist! The addition of caramel took it to the next level of deliciousness! Thank you for sharing this amazing recipe!

If you run out of oil, try using mayonnaise - you won't be disappointed ;-)

Extremely moist with a delicious taste! Ideal for a late-night treat when you're in the mood for chocolate cake! I also suggest incorporating dark chocolate chips for an extra burst of flavor.

This recipe is absolutely amazing!!! I decided to add some extra cocoa powder for a richer flavor, and I threw in some mini Reese's cups from Trader Joe's as well. This dish is definitely going to be a regular in my recipe collection! 😊

This recipe makes enough for two servings for me! If it smokes or overflows while cooking, adjust the time or use a larger container. Don't blame the recipe. With no egg, you can't undercook this dish. You can easily add more cooking time if needed.
