Blackberry Compote Recipe

Blackberry Compote Recipe

Cook Time: 20 minutes

Blackberry Sauce

This simple and tangy blackberry sauce is perfect for topping your favorite desserts, pancakes, or even savory dishes. Heres how to make it:

Ingredients

  • 2 cups fresh blackberries
  • cup white sugar
  • 1 teaspoon lemon juice
  • 1 pinch salt

Directions

  1. Combine blackberries, sugar, lemon juice, and salt in a saucepan. Toss the ingredients to coat the berries evenly and let the mixture sit for 5 minutes.
  2. Place the saucepan over medium-high heat and bring to a boil. Reduce the heat to medium and simmer the mixture, stirring occasionally, until the sauce has reduced and thickened slightly (about 15 to 20 minutes).
  3. Remove the saucepan from the heat. Allow the sauce to cool for a few minutes before serving. If you're not using it right away, refrigerate it. The sauce will thicken more as it cools.

Recipe Tip

If you prefer a tart flavor, use just 2 tablespoons of sugar instead of the full cup for a more tangy sauce.

I added extra lemon juice because I like to freeze it in ice cube trays, and a splash of water. It tastes fantastic drizzled over cheesecake or enjoyed on its own!

Excellent with vanilla yogurt, vanilla ice cream, lemon verbena ice cream, waffles...those are the options I've experimented with so far! Simple and fast to whip up. The most challenging task is probably picking the blackberries! :D
