Grilled Fruit Skewers with Honey Butter Sauce

This delightful recipe combines juicy, grilled fruits with a sweet and buttery honey sauce for a refreshing, easy-to-make dessert or snack. Perfect for grilling season!

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 3 fresh peaches, pitted and quartered
  • 3 fresh plums, pitted and quartered
  • 3 bananas, cut into 4 pieces each
  • 12 strawberries, hulled
  • 12 skewers

Directions

  1. Preheat your outdoor grill to medium heat and place a large sheet of aluminum foil on the grate to prevent sticking.
  2. In a small saucepan, melt the butter and honey together over medium heat. Once melted, reduce the heat to low and cook, stirring occasionally, until the sauce thickens slightly, about 3 to 5 minutes. Be careful not to let it boil. Remove from heat and set aside.
  3. Thread the fruits onto the skewers: 1 peach quarter, 1 plum quarter, 1 banana piece, and 1 strawberry per skewer.
  4. Place the skewers on the preheated grill, then spoon the honey sauce over each skewer. Grill for about 5 minutes, or until the fruit softens and the sauce starts to thicken and caramelize.
  5. Flip the skewers over, spoon more honey sauce on top, and grill for an additional 5 minutes or until the fruit is fully cooked and coated with the sauce.

Cooks Note

Use any leftover honey sauce as a delicious dip or drizzle it over ice cream for an extra touch of sweetness.

Fantastic! If you enjoy grilled fruit, you'll absolutely adore this recipe. To make the sauce, I combined 2 tablespoons of honey and 2 tablespoons of brown sugar with a touch of vanilla and cinnamon to create a delicious "caramel" flavor. Instead of cooking it on the stove, I simply microwaved the sauce for a quicker and easier preparation. I melted margarine (or in my case Land O Lakes Lite butter) and added the remaining ingredients. After skewering the fruit and placing it on a lightly oiled grate, I found that the strawberries cooked a bit faster than the other fruits, but the heavenly aroma wafting from the grill more than made up for it. The sauce was plentiful for basting and added a wonderful finishing touch when drizzled over the grilled fruit (or any other dish you can imagine). While this dish shines on its own, it would also be delightful served over pound cake or ice cream for an indulgent treat. A perfect choice for a summer dessert!

Great use of pineapple, mango, pears, and bananas! I individually skewered each fruit to easily remove them as they finished cooking. A helpful tip is to use two skewers per fruit to prevent slipping when rotating them.

These were absolutely delicious! I made some tweaks and my family absolutely adored them. I incorporated a hint of cinnamon and a splash of vanilla extract, resulting in a fantastic flavor profile. We opted for a mix of peaches and strawberries, and slightly reduced the cooking time as per our preferences. Overall, a delightful treat that was a hit with everyone!

Here is the rewritten review: "For our recipe group gathering on March 31, 2012, we decided to switch things up with a fruit-based dish. Opting for fresh produce from the local market, I prepared a delightful honey sauce that complemented the natural sweetness of the fruits without overshadowing their flavors, allowing the grilled essence to shine. Pairing it with Greek Yogurt made for a delicious and nutritious lunch option."

I made this recipe for a cooking group... Despite my under-ripe peaches and plums (not in season right now), the dish turned out fantastic! I absolutely adored how the bananas cooked (could have just made a skewer of bananas and been happy, lol). I am excited to experiment with other fruits next time. They were delicious on their own, but I think they would be even better served with ice cream! I will definitely be making these again. Thank you for sharing :)

This dish was excellent! I followed Jillian's recommendation and it turned out fantastic. The caramel sauce was a brilliant addition. I used a mix of mangoes, peaches, bananas, and strawberries, which worked really well together. I can't wait to experiment with different fruit combinations next time, perhaps cherries and pineapples!

This experience was fantastic! I prioritize eating nutritious meals, but I believe it's okay to indulge a little when it comes to dessert. This recipe is definitely a keeper! Thank you, Laura!
