Ingredients

  • 3/4 cup white sugar
  • 2 tablespoons lemon zest (from 2 large lemons)
  • 3 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground turmeric
  • 4 ounces cream cheese, at room temperature
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 3/4 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 3/4 cup confectioner's sugar

Directions

  1. Combine white sugar and lemon zest in a small bowl. Rub the lemon zest into the sugar using your fingertips or the back of a spoon until the sugar becomes moist and light yellow. Set this mixture aside.
