Guinness Bread Recipe

Ingredients

  • 1 cup regular rolled oats, plus more for topping
  • 2 cups whole wheat flour
  • cup brown sugar
  • 2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • teaspoon salt
  • cup melted butter
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 (12 fluid ounce) can or bottle Guinness

Directions

  1. Preheat the oven to 425F (220C) and grease an 8x8-inch baking pan.
  2. In a large bowl, combine oats, flour, brown sugar, baking soda, baking powder, and salt.
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk together the melted butter, vanilla extract, buttermilk, and Guinness.
  4. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients and gently stir until fully combined.
  5. Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan, and if desired, sprinkle additional oats on top.
  6. Bake in the preheated oven for 30 minutes, then reduce the temperature to 400F (200C) and bake for another 30 minutes.
  7. Once baked, turn off the oven, crack the door open, and let the bread cool for 30 minutes inside the oven.
  8. After cooling, remove the bread from the oven and transfer it to a wire rack to cool completely.
