Chocolate-Covered Bacon Strips Recipe
Cook Time: 20 minutes
Chocolate-Covered Bacon
Ingredients
- 12 slices thick-cut bacon
- 12 wooden skewers
- 1 cup semisweet chocolate chips
- 1 tablespoon vegetable shortening
Directions
- Preheat the oven to 400F (200C). Place a baking rack on top of a large baking sheet.
- Thread each slice of bacon onto a skewer and place the skewered bacon on the baking rack.
- Bake the bacon in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until crisp. Remove from the oven and allow it to cool completely.
- In a microwave-safe bowl, combine the chocolate chips and vegetable shortening. Heat in the microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring after each interval, until the chocolate is melted and smooth.
- Using a pastry brush, coat each side of the cooled, skewered bacon with the melted chocolate mixture.
- Place the coated bacon on a sheet of waxed paper and refrigerate until firm, about 30 minutes.
- Store the chocolate-covered bacon in the refrigerator until ready to serve.
Recipe Tip
For extra flavor, consider topping the chocolate-covered bacon with finely chopped walnuts, pistachios, toasted coconut, brown sugar, or a sprinkle of cayenne pepper. Add the topping while the chocolate is still wet.
